I don't think there will be a roof there. The way it looks from the Third & Shoal cam, the top garage floor will be open. The rendering image is dated from March 2015, quite a few things have probably changed since then.

There will be solar panels over the top level of the garage.

The garage is open now for use as a lay down yard. It will be finished once the tower is done. Also, I think these white railings are temporary. A mock-up isn't always exactly perfect as sometimes materials aren't available yet and they have to make do. The white railings just look better than 2x4s.

Aha, I was misled by the pretty white railings and the lack of support columns for a roof. Solar panes can be added with modular steel supports, so this makes sense. Hope the power from those panels will go toward the HOA dues

I'm all for solar panels, but wouldn't a nice pool and deck be a big selling point for potential residents? Instead they get a "cool" pool the size of a Nissan Versa.

They've added more shaft sections since that photo was taken. Crane shaft pieces are supposedly 20 feet tall each. I can count at least 6 of them above the top of the building now, plus the crane boom itself and swivel base. So, it's probably around 140 feet above the top of the building now. So I'm guessing the crane now is probably within 20 feet or so of where the building will top out.

The top of the building now is at the 49th floor - 528 feet, and is 151 feet above the 35 floor. The 35 floor is where that large setback is on the east side of the building.

Wow. Because that crane looks *huge* coming up Lamar right now.

I haven't been downtown since the Independent broke ground but I'll finally get to see the progress in person next week. You'd think from the rarity of my visits to downtown, that I'm neighbors with drummer instead of just being 20 miles away.

I don't know why being my neighbor would be such a bad thing. Except for when I'm teaching my 17-month-old how to drum........

I play guitar so that wouldn't bother me. Its the 16K mile round trip commute to my job that's the deal breaker.

Here is the view when I walk into the street from my driveway. One night in the future, I plan on knocking that damn billboard sign down.

And the owner of that billboard likely wants it to be digital which would really be a nasty game-changer for your area. Let's remember they are also the ones funding the petition on CodeNEXT. Hope we can replace our 1984 Land Development Code soon and I hope all of you are involved.

Oh yea you mean those signs popping up saying Code Next wrecks Austin next to these multi condos popping up in existing neighborhoods when they are openly being deceptive since Code Next is not enacted. All this development going up like the 475K two story walls a few feet from my property are due to loopholes in our current zoning codes. It's ridiculous cause of Code Next was enacted a year and a half ago, then they wouldn't have been able to build they way that they did on that lot next door.

I'm actually kinda bummed on how much of an impact on the skyline this one is having. The only time I think like wow that thing is big, is when I'm coming up Lamar. can anyone show where else the building really stands out to be our tallest?

It stands out coming into Austin from the south on I-35. There's a rise on I-35 just past the toll road interchange where the skyline pops into view. When topped out, it'll be an equal partner in that view with the Austonian.
