Brutalism is very powerful architecture...I find its ideas attractive.

MAn i'm so tired of this Miami looking bullshit in lakeshore east, where are the black glass towers that chicago use to build, where are the modern design and innovative ideas like the Nina Tower in Hong Kong??? Where is the futuristic design like Calatrva's 2,000 foot giant.Although im aware that not every residential tower has to be striking but ,DANG! At least make the effort to design something unique for the top of these lame pieces of shit buildings, this is Chicago! This is so fustrating to me, I can't believe these developers are getting away with these poor, uninspired designs. I hope they relize this before the get into the other lots fronting LSD. What's happening here is truly a waste!!

Honestly it looks surprisingly Impressionist to me. Maybe because of the b/w.

It's hard to tell from that rendering but so far I'm not impressed. The hole is pretty much the only thing that saves from becoming this value-engineered Loewenberg monstrosity:

Unless you are referring to having the cutout at the bottom instead of in the middle.

Right.
And also the skyscraper that was planned in Hamburg in the 1930s.

What I was gonna say. A color, more detailed rendering would obviously be better.

Yes...while mopving the hole to the bottom would satisfy our little wet dream desires of seeing into LSE from across the river, saving the park form a giant mass of a building by putting that hole there is far more critical.

In fact, the hole should be larger and they can add about 200 feet.

Honestly...I'm underwhelemed, so if this is the great project, the devil must be in the details.

I like it...

It'd be great if it were pushing 1000' - but nice none the less.

Not sure about the base however...

I'd like to see a color render when they get to it...

I like big, thick towers (most of the time)

I do agree that they need some more projects NOT shaped like boxes though.

This one seems like it will fit in well regardless...I has the "Chicago" style about it...

Atlanta's getting one as well - 50 Allen Plaza. That one's actually surprisingly good looking too.

I think it looks pretty cool from whats been shown so far. Looks better than most of the LSE buildings anyway. I just think some people were expecting much more, in height and design, and are disappointed from that. Im in agreement with others who think we'll have to wait and see more renders to make a solid judgement though.

Gotta wait for better renders!

That'd be the Atlantis - one of my first thoughts on seeing the LSE proposal also; Chicago's not getting the palm tree, though

Have to say this one's certainly not one of my favourite proposed towers. Hopefully it's just the render though and we'll be amazed by various details, etc.

I hope not; absentee-landlordism isn't exactly desirable.

I agree with everything you say but don't you think that nastiness of this tower makes it pretty damn "okay" though? It's too crude for it not to be intentional. The vertical flow is muffled at just about every chance. The horizontal flow is almost non-existant. It only exists to kill the verticality of the tower. Or so it seems.

All this hub-bub is such a short time. WOW. It must be the building of the century at the very center of the universe.

I understand the discussion. Perhaps, the powers that be put this "sketch" out in the press to create this activity. If so, they succeeded beyond measure.

Chicago has sooo much going on I am really suprised. Cheers to Chicago.

Chicago gets palm trees along the beaches near LSD from about late spring through early fall. There are companies that rent them.

Enough global warming and we can have some year-round. I have some palm shrubs that have made it through their third winter so far. They don't look too great, but they are alive.

It isn't always a problem. Someone owning a condo and paying the monthly fee , locking the door and leaving town for a while wouldn't cause much of a problem, nor would the owner of a large rental developement who hired a property manager.
