I'm a huge fan of the Bayshore parking garage. Once you get used to it, it's incredibly efficient. That main centre ramp is amazing, top to bottom in seconds.

Haven't used the Bayshore Parking a whole lot, but wasn't a huge fan when I did. I also get a little confused at Lansdowne, even when I follow the signs. I do like the lights over each spot indicating if it's available or not.

As for the layout of the new Civic's parking garage, I unfortunately can no longer find it in DevApps since it's already u/c, but feel free to try and locate it here:

As someone who works close by and drives there 2-3 days a week on my lunchbreak, I concur.
Once you know the layout, it's so easy to navigate and very efficient.

My problem with Lansdowne is the drivelanes.

When entering on Bank and going towards the movie theatre, there are at least six 90-degree turns. And the exit has been rearranged on the Bank side so that people will stop running into things and eachother, which involves a fun chicane.

Granted, the canal side is a MUCH simpler layout and hasn't been shoehorned into the site.

Is it so hard to have straight drivelanes?

I agree about Bayshore. The limitation at Bayshore is connection to existing infrastructure. The straight ramps are amazing, but then why aren't they connected directly to the exterior? Why is the east-end ramp oriented with the lowest part on teh far east? Requiring a round-a-loopy-round to get out at the ground level (if you didn't know to jump off the ramp at the upper floors to get to the highway ramp, which also happens to be the busiest pedestrian crosswalk. Both ramps should have faced eachother, highest points at the far east and far west, with the lowest floors near the centre of the garage, turned 90 degrees towards the exit, and a massive drivelane dumping out to the streetlight on Woodridge.

Still can't believe we are building a giant parking garage on some of the best land in the city literally steps away from the LRT station.

You think the parking garage won't be used? Or you imagine charging $20 a day doesn't deter them but having no parking at all and doctors will take a bus and two trains from Rockcliffe and nurses will take the same from Stittsville to get to 10pm shifts not to mention sick and visitors? Even hospitals in Manhattan have parking as a key feature.

I think the point he's making is, it's an ideal location for something amazing. And we are building a parking garage. Yes, we both recognize it will be used.

Everything about the placement of the parking mega-structure and the duplicate Hospital footprint (e.g., could have built one over the other), is wrong. We know this already! This is a dead and ever re-flogged horse!

Yeah, as much as I’m a fan of this project, it does feel a bit dirty to look at the beauty of the area surrounding this land and realize we’re building an above ground parking garage on it. I know there were limitations on what was feasible in terms of a fully underground structure but regardless I really hope the “disguise” techniques are effective.

I'm sceptical, but one lives in hope.

Excited to finally see some structures up. The Civic is literally crumbling around me and half my patients are in the "temporary" tent along Carling. This thing can't come soon enough!

Are there any concrete plans on what happens with the old civic once the new one opens?

Had to google what you were referring to, but essentially yes I think that's what the plan is.

Pulled this from a presentation the other day. Looks like a rehab centre (similar to what is at the General Campus currently) and a long-term care facility will take up much of the existing space. Hard to say which buildings they will keep and which they will tear down.

With the various conditions of the buildings on campus, I think you'll lose half or so, and significant upgrades to the remaining half. HVAC, IT, security, structure. All are severely lacking at this point, a terrible game of whack-a-mole to keep the place running.

My question is about the heart institute. Its almost brand new. I assume it stays where it is, so you have a heart attack, end up at the heart institute (assuming you are in an ambulance?) or do you first go to the new campus and get stabilized and then sent over there?

Are they moving the rehab from General or adding another centre?

Yeah the Heart Institute isn't going anywhere, and that's how its done today. You go to any of the area hospitals, stabilized, triaged, and then transferred to the Institute, you never get sent there directly. So aside from the ease of moving someone from the Civic to the Institute internally, operationally it won't mean much to leave it behind.

There used to be a program where, with certain ECG criteria, ambulances would bring you directly to the OHI....not sure if that's still the case though.

My biggest concern is how specialists/consultants will go between the Civic and the OHI. Currently, specialists such as endocrinology, rheumatology, infectious disease, and nephrology just hop over from the Civic to see consults....and the cardiologists do the same in the other direction. This is going to be a BIG hassle with the two separated by about 1200m.
