Just how would a Park District concessionaire be assessed property taxes?

^If the "Experience" is a for-profit entity, located on public land, it absolutely should be paying property and income taxes. I can picture the City of Chicago leasing the land out for a dollar a month and tax-free.

Don't forget about fuel taxes, checkout bag taxes, liquid nicotine taxes, and O'Hare landing fees.

UIC has unveiled the three finalists for the planned Center for the Performing Arts:
- JohnsonMarklee
- Morphosis
- OMA/Rem Koolhaas
Each finalist has teamed with a local architect, presumably as the AOR, once the project is awarded. I think this has the potential to be a standout piece of architecture, especially given the prominent location at Harrison and Halsted. The interesting thing is that the recently released campus master plan shows this specific building as being a two-phase project..

Which side of that intersection will it be built upon?

According to this map it will be the NW corner:

https://cppm.uic.edu/Content/master_.../CampusMap.pdf

Excited to see a rendering of the final design – should have a big impact at that corner.

I mean I guess it doesn't look bad, sort of like it wouldn't look bad if Andy Warhol painted on top of the Mona Lisa.

The NW corner of the intersection. Which is really the only site that logically makes any sense/that the University owns (at the present), as it's not just an empty field, but I believe is also currently being used as a staging area for construction equipment for the new dorms fo the west. It's pretty clear on Google maps.

^ it’s staging for the Circle Interchange project. They are just wrapping up a huge bored pile retaining wall, but they may continue to use the site for staging afterward. It’s not clear when they will turn the site back over to the university.

Also on the other side along Halsted, IDOT contractors are building another huge wall right up against the UIC fitness center. It looks very precarious right now...

Anyone know what’s going on with the old building on the SW corner of Clark and Division. Renovation? Demolition? Fencing is up around most of the building.

This would be my guess:

Tribune link

"City proposes financing for $53 million renovation of Mark Twain Hotel under SRO preservation ordinance"

I would be in favor of this. The Near North Side is running out of these old buildings. We need to protect the ones we can. Chicago won't run out of room just because a few dozen old stock are preserved. We aren't San Fran or Manhattan
