I was just on a thread in the Canadian forum that talked about 2008 CMA estimates coming out this weekend, and people in the thread posted numbers for all major Canadian cities except Winnipeg. (I was kind of frustrated, since it was just one big c**k tease) I guess you have to pay for the data, but I'm only interested in Winnipeg's number. Anyone have the 2008 population?? Thanks in advance.
lol man mello out i been mad about this stupid ass long delay on the data to and i don't have plastic either
What kind of Mafioso outfit is Statcan running anyway?? Three dollars for data that you already pay taxes for?? You do realize that if they did that same kind of thing in the US, they'd get an unruly torch and pitchfork mob at the front steps of their headquarters.
Paying for data from Stats Canada allows them to keep their budget lower than it is. If the data was free, taxes might be higher or less money would go elsewhere because Statscan needs it. We could provide bus service for free too, if everyone was willing to pay more taxes to support it.
I agree that something like this is dumb to charge for, especially when it is only 3$ for a single metro's data.
I bet the infrustructure necessary to receive, process and track payments along with the personnel used to track the finances probably costs more then the money they bring in.
So how about statscan cut the BS and provide canadians access to the data we already paid for.
I'm really not one to care much about these kinds of numbers - as numbers in and of themselves, as opposed to figures tied to economic reasons, etc. but that is fairly impressive. Thank you sir for your double-double and a doughnut cost for data provided.
