Happy 100th. Birthday Miami Beach!

Miami Beach is a coastal resort city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. It was incorporated on March 26, 1915.[4] The municipality is located on a series of natural and man-made barrier islands between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay, the latter of which separates the Beach from Miami city proper.

In 1979, Miami Beach's Art Deco Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Art Deco District is the largest collection of Art Deco architecture in the world[7] and comprises hundreds of hotels, apartments and other structures erected between 1923 and 1943. Mediterranean, Streamline Moderne and Art Deco are all represented in the District.

I like how Theatre is spelt correctly in this one:

Happy Birthday Miami Beach, enjoyed the deco strip a lot regardless of the fact you were as cold as a witch's left tit back in February 2010! [And people were still swimming at the beach!].

Thats going to be a massive problem for Florida in general. Those barrier Islands are really sensitive to sea level rise. Millions live along the coast, so it will be a big federal issue to fix it. Sea level of 0-2' primarily for most of the state bar the area around Britton Hill. Big problems coming down the line for humanity, we just happen to be the generation(s) that will not see the full force of it.

What's missing here is a then and now pics with women in bikinis in one and overly dressed women in the other, including in the water.

The true problem with sea level rise is that as the threshold for water damage becomes lower in events like hurricanes, the number of times flooding will likely occur goes up in a much faster than linear fashion relative to sea level.

So, what we'll see is more flooding. Moderate caliber hurricanes that wouldn't normally have done much damage will be able to with higher sea levels.

Even the worst realistic predictions don't have Miami under water at all, but they have it become quite a bit more sensitive to storm flooding damage.

Julia Tuttle gets credit for the City of Miami and Miami in general for luring Flagler down here, but the true parent of Miami Beach is Carl Fisher, from Indianapolis.

It's amazing how many mid westerners & northerners are responsible for the founding of the Miami area. Julia Tuttle from Cleveland, Carl Fisher, from Indianapolis. Then there was New Jersey entrepreneurs Ezra Osborn and Elnathan Field who were planting a coconut plantation along the shore in the 1880s and Henry Flagler who grew up in Ohio and became a founding member of Standard Oil and then established the Florida East Coast railway. His railroad from Jacksonville to the Keys are the same tracks being used today for the All Aboard Florida project.

actually, it's 'spelled' in an incorrect, but charming, olde fashioned way. haven't you british people learned to speak american from our overwhelming, constant media assault on your senses yet?

sounds like it was just as cold down there for you in 2010 as it was when i was there just this past february -- florida winter weather is a hoax i tell ya!
