Kansas City has one of those as well. Not sure how it works, but people seem to like it! Great photothread. Des Moines is looking better than ever!!

Yes, I like the big boy of Iowa. Des Moines is nice. I specially like its capitol.

Thanks for sharing your pics. I hope to see more about Iowa. I´d like to see a thread about Madison County and its famous covered bridges.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain!

Des Moines is a very clean and beautiful city. It is easy to get around and it doesn't have the severe urban decay and abandonment that has troubled many other northern US cities. A surprisingly hilly and architecturally diverse city as well. Des Moines topography is definitely not flat.

Beautiful and clean, but sidewalks devoid of people.

Nice looking downtown at street level. Some good buildings. And like others have said, it is one of the better state capitol buildings.

Thanks for posting those photos! I have always been interested in Des Moines. I love how large the skyline is and the state capitol building is amazing. I also love how clean it is and the low crime rate. It is going to get even better as it continues to grow.

Very nice! I love Des Moines and weirdly feel like I can relate to it since my city and Des Moines have had nearly identical populations for a long time.

Thanks for all the replies.

@ FLL David - It was a Sunday evening, and I suspect most folks were home at that time.

Nice tour. I am a big fan of Des Moines. I wandered around downtown and the capitol area near midnight about nine years ago. Need to go back.

Thanks. It was a Sunday evening, so very few folks out and about.

Nice tour, thanks! The city definitely has a nice skyline for the size. Not only in height but in density.

Des Moines has one of the best skylines for a mid sized city in North America.

i remember all the skywalks when i was a kid. haven't been back to DSM in many years, though. i remember a des moines cousin bragging that you could drive from one side to the other in some absurd small amount of time (i don't remember, like 15 minutes or something). that would get you like 1/3 of the way to downtown from the suburb i lived in outside of st. louis at the time.
