That giant painting on the left wall of the lecture center used to be in the lobby of NBC. Not sure if their using it in the erendering as an example or is it actually getting moved over there cuz NBC got a new one? If so its a pretty quick move right over the Columbus bridge.

I really hope they're not over-selling the updated Chicago city model because it looks absolutely amazing in those renderings. I used to walk around the lobby of 224 S Michigan for hours in awe of it, so I hope it lives up to the hype.
Same here, same here!

^ Hard to believe that was once a reeeeeal grody Houlihan's. What a waste of prime space so close to Chicago's epicenter. I did pick up some cool tchotchkes when they closed down, though!

This new architecture center is a much better use of space.

Hopefully it’s to scale and right next to the Sears Tower model, as an exhibit on why spires are bullshit.

Petronas Towers were designed by U of I graduate Cesar Pelli, after all. There appears to be a scale model of the under-construction Jeddah Tower of Chicago's own Smith + Gill in the main lobby, too. I dig it. The lobby features Chicago's best as well as some of our most notable exports.

From the article:
Quote:
The multi-level space will present visitors a chance to walk among oversized models of some of the globe’s most iconic towers in its Skyscraper Gallery. Meanwhile a Chicago-focused gallery will provide perspectives on the city’s architectural legacy—past, present, and future.

That must be a placeholder for the renderings, right? The mural is Roger Brown's "City of Big Shoulders"! Do you suppose it has been donated to the CAF? That would be awesome!!

Building permit issued for the new 6 story, 100 unit building at 2835 W Belden which is right around the corner from the California Blue Line stop and the "twin towers" of Logan Square.

The first 3 buildings next to the tracks will be torn down for this, or maybe they already are torn down:

Man vacant lots are just getting anhilated right now. Between this and those other two CMK just started, plus everything else already underway we probably have taken out 20% of the remaining vacant lots in the South Loop excluding the 78 and South Bank.

I'd love to see another one of those vacant lot maps done for central Chicago showing lots in 2000 vs 2010 vs present.

I doubt it will be white. Final renderings depict it being grey. That being said, all the most recent renderings seem to be done in a manner such that it could go either way. If the external details also depicted will get added I don't know.

Northworks

Older renderings looked better than the newer renderings.

^The older rendering communicated a much hokier design, IMO. Having the spandrels and piers that proud on the elevations looked very contrivedly 'industrial'.
