What are their AM stations doing? Perhaps they might add CFL and/or MLS to the evenings of one of those stations. I can't really see an FM station in a major market becoming all sports, it seems like a waste of a signal to me, especially centered on soccer and football. Why would Sportsnet look to get rid of Canucks, unless they were also looking to exit the sports radio market? Which given now that TSN has exited the market, I think Sportsnet would make a play to build up, not take down. If the rights are up, then of course they have the possibility of losing them.

101.1 is pretty much in the middle of the FM band and is in the "optimal frequency range" for stations that play music only. (the middle of the band has slightly better audio fidelity)
Slots in that range are too expensive for just a sports station. They would opt for the edges of the band where it is cheaper.

Canucks radio rights are up next summer.

So yes Sportsnet 650 could lose the rights and they are dead last in the ratings.

Bidding might start later this year for 2022 - 23 onwards.

Also many of the 650 staff are in the last year of 4 year contracts ( they signed on in 2017 ) .

Rogers only bought 650 once they secured the Canucks radio rights, if Corus steals away those Canucks rights I expect 650 to go some other format network fed, or in the case of 600 and CKO, just go silent and turn in the license to the CRTC.

AM licenses are worthless unless you have strong ratings and good clients ( advertisers ).

650 and that stupid Comedy station on 1040 are battling in out for Last place in the ratings.

Just look at Funny 1040's twitter comments, almost 1000 comments per day full of profanity.

Bell blew it and they know it
