I just had a weird thought - probably wrong but still. Let's say that dome in "the 78" is in fact for Amazon right now. The original building permit for it was issued a few days before the Amazon announcement but it was applied for a few weeks before. What if it was in Chicago's bag - there was going to be no "reality show" whatsoever and they were going to have a press conference for this thing then for whatever reason they had second thoughts.

Okay probably wrong, but just a thought. It would be interesting if that was the case..

I had this thought and then deeply buried it to avoid heartbreak should it not be here.

Related got two permits. One for the press event was in October. The original permit was issued on 9/5/2017 (Amazon's announcement was on 9/7) except for the first review part of it was approved on 8/24/2017.

BY THE WAY, Related has another permit for this that hasn't been issued yet. As others have already called, they're full of shit saying it's for an ops center. Here is what the permit states:

"Erection Starts: 3/9/2018, Erection Ends: 3/21/2018. ERECTION STARTS: 03/09/2018, ERECTION ENDS: 03/21/2018. ERECT A 30' DIAMETER TEMPORARY DOME ON A 50' X 50' TEMPORARY STAGE AS A TEMPORARY SALES CENTER FOR A MAXIMUM OF 59 DAYS. PERMIT EXPIRES MAY 7, 20"

As I've talked about before, my money is on them having a scale model in this thing to show potential clients (i.e. Amazon) with some snazzy stuff going on inside. Since they're all under NDA, they most likely made up the ops center BS.

EDIT: Permit was issued yesterday

New rendering of 7 story 328 N. Carpenter in a Tribune article. Much of the article discusses the rising land values around Google and McDonald's HQ

Of course this is just a smaller number of permits in what have been numerous new single family homes and some multi unit buildings permitted in that area since Fall of 2013. If you go to my new construction map link in my signature, you can see this.

Awesome for Bronzeville. I also noticed the other day that someone broke ground on a new SFH in that cute little pocket of Victorian cottages just SE of Ogden and Western in Tri Taylor. Slowly starting to encroach on the IMD lands!

Also, has anyone else seen the construction fencing that went up around the lot at Elston and North with all sorts of Sterling Bay Lincoln Yards branding on it? Brags about Bloomingdale Trail and Transportation Hub and "Jobs"... Must have been for Amazon...
