In typical US buildings, they fit in a bunch of mechanical floors at the top but this tower clearly doesn't have that so where do they have things like the cooling towers?
lets hope they didn't forgo a tuned mass damper for a restaurant or bar. They'll have lots of .

unless they use a distributed damping system, like viscoelastic. basically instead of one big damper they spread a lot of little shock absorbers throughout the structure.

Had the chance to visit Shenzhen today and wow, what a building! It took me some time to walk far enough to fit it all in a photo and looking up made my neck hurt.

Unfortunately it was a smoggy day, but the building (and Shenzhen downtown in general) looked great from the 99th floor of KK100 tower in East Shenzhen. Quite incredible how the city has seven completed supertalls and no fewer than thirteen under construction! :hahah:

Could be suspended in that diamond hanging above the restaurant? How cool would that be? Eating dinner with a 600+ MT sphere hanging above your head, swaying side to side...

Please tell me that person on top of that building was just photoshop into the photo..yikes!

This has always been my favorite Super Tall since its concept.
But I am really bummed out because that spire REALLY looked f**ken grand!

I can't believe what difference in height it would have made the spire "dangerous",
At the height this Skyscraper is right now, heck what's the difference?

As much as everyone complains about the spire being lost I actually prefer it without. Looks cleaner and more futuristic.

The sheer number of people and rate of urbanization in China is mind boggling.

I just found out I'll be in Shenzhen next month. Looking forward to seeing this and the rest of the city in person.

Kudos to Kohn Pederson Fox Associates, emerging as a world leader in supertall design, for this spectacular building, which takes its place in the KPF portfolio alongside the iconic Shanghai World Financial Center, Hong Kong's International Finance Center, and NYC's rising Hudson Yards towers. Well done KPF!

The general wackiness of Chinese skyscrapers usually doesn't appeal to me but this one I like.

The mountains in the background with the skyscrapers are still Shenzhen, but the farther mountain (top left) across the sea without any buildings is Hong Kong's New Territories.
