Our cities are spaced 5 to 9 hours apart, 3 hours isn't too bad, lol. At least he has another city he can drive to that doesn't involve pulling off the highway and sleeping at least once before you get there.

It's a 2 hour drive. And usually you fill up your car if you go for all your neighbours and family/friends. Things I miss about living up North lol.
Timmins to Rouyn-Noranda takes about 2.5 hours for me but maybe a bit less when weather conditions are good. Oh, just noticed that Toaster answered as well.
I normally buy Coors Light and Bud Light, 48 can packs for friends and family. Buys cans is much cheaper in Quebec. Ontario is the only place I know where beer in cans costs more than bottles. Another bonus is that the deposit in Quebec is only 5 cents per can and you can return the cans in Ontario and get 10 cents per can!
