Portland: Cruising Through the West Hills

Architecture school has just about killed photography for me. There simply has been no time, and even when there was time, that's when I took the opportunity to pass out on my couch. However, two weeks ago, after waiting and saving for three years, I finally got a brand new D7100 with a 70-300mm telephoto. Now, you're familiar with my work by now, all the photos of Seattle, Sacramento, and especially Portland. Well, all of those were taken with a scratched, burnt, and broken D3000. I wanted to see just what kind of mayhem I could pull off with this new gear, so I skipped my afternoon class yesterday on by far the nicest day of the year so far and went driving through the West Hills that border Downtown to the south and west.

All I can say is, ho-ly shit.

Beautiful captures! The quality of the images is amazing, with high sharpness and very intense colours.

You did a great purchase, of course. That Nikon and the telephoto work really fine.

Besides these technical valuations, I´ve liked a lot the views of Portland you show, above all those with Mount St. Helens in the background.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain.

Wow, that's a whole new way of looking at Portland--details I've never noticed before, vistas I haven't seen before. Very cool, wish there was more!

Beautiful shots of Portland! One of the more photogenic cities anywhere. The blend of the green hills, mountains and the downtown skyline.

You're getting great clarity man and especially on a zoom lens. I know exactly how you feel too, that's how I felt when I picked up my 60D last summer. Hope to see more threads with your new gear when you get the time.

Man, I'm jealous. Always wanted to see what the views were like in the West Hills outside of Washington Park's Rose Garden overlook.

Hol-y shit is right. Those are some great views and nice clean shots. I did that recently too, cruised around the West Hills for some vantage points. I really like the shot of Park Avenue West going up. Saving up for that camera and skipping class were a couple damn good choices!
