The first mistake was when Mayor Reed gave the contract to a development company that normally builds suburban Walmarts. Now all the downtown momentum has shifted to the gultch and south downtown. My guess is it will be another decade before anything major happens with underground.

Biggest issue here is there is no cooperation, and the public isn't involved. That whole area down there is a big puzzle, owned by various corporate and government entities, and each one has a different vision for what they want. There are parts of Underground that aren't part of the Underground Atlanta mall and if it all got put back together again you could potentially walk under Alabama Street through Underground, the Five Points MARTA station, through to the Gulch and the stadiums and all of that, it could be a really cool redevelopment project.

The school should buy it. Best use of the property. IMO

I don't think the new owner has even announced any definitive plans for the above ground property yet other than the student housing project that is in permitting.

But I was under the impression that they've already done more to revive Underground than WRS ever did including the under-construction food hall curated by the same guy that did Chattahoochee Food Works.

Funny, in all those years WRS did nothing the only event I got to see was a production of Peter Pan in the old Dante's space. Nice use of the ship down there!

I'd also heard Selig was involved in the food hall. They did an awesome job on the Works. Remember that huge Mexican restaurant that used to be down there? I wonder if Masquerade could take that over when things get back to normal?

Georgia State should buy it and build it into a destination area.

Not sure what this means (maybe some brick workers went to the wrong address) but a tiny bit of work this morning.

OMG! That would have been a fantastic complement to what
South Downtown and Centennial Yards are doing.

Still being used a parking. Lots of plans and hype but time to see more action.

Here’s a YouTube video on underground. It is interesting to see how outsiders see the city: (Ryan with ‘It’s History)
