So we all agree that the Gordie Howe Bridge shouldn't move forward? Our dollar is worth 30% less than when this project was proposed, that means Canadian tax payers would be on the hook for even more money. Also government can't create competition with a privately owned company, it's just not right. Plus traffic numbers are too low to even warrant a new crossing. Surveys show future traffic numbers growing but I'm skeptical, they're definitely not trending that way. And finally, Moroun owns at least 20 properties on the Detroit side that would need to be acquired for the bridge to be constructed. He owns a huge piece of property exactly where the proposed bridge would touch down in Detroit. What's the government going to do? Declare eminent domain on all 20 properties?

This thing is never going to happen and rightfully so.

This thing is never going to happen and rightfully so.

A freeway to freeway connection is badly needed for transport trucks so it should be going ahead. Many big businesses will be pushing for the bridge.

They have that, it's called the blue water bridge. Unless the trucks are destined for Windsor, the blue water bridge is faster for any other destination in Ontario or beyond (New York). And Windsor doesn't need its own freeway to freeway connection.

Expropriation is much harder to do in the US than in Canada. Nothing is underway yet, tenders haven't even been released

Sorry, but you are clueless. The plaza on the Windsor side is well under way and expropriations on the Delray side have already begun. This bridge will be built as it is the most important peice of infrastructure in Canada at the moment.

They still haven't even awarded the contract for the bulk of the work and only 60% of the property on the US side has been acquired.
