It may not actually impact us deep down... but when it gets to the point that Harper bashing replaces "how's the weather?" as polite conversation with passers by... that's an impact.

Not to say I really mind that aspect of it... you know my political views. The more people who, exasperated, exclaim, "WTF are we in this with them for anyway?" - that gives me hope that we'll eventually get out. But, you know, it's such a fringe thing... so in reality it's just needless discomfort for however many years it takes for him to fuck off. Pity the parties had to combine. I feel more PC federally now than I did when I was younger. But I will never be C.

I never had the chance to visit St. John's, so you're saying I should lament the forever missed opportunity to have experienced the St. John's of Chrétien/Martin before it died?

From your Harper-era photothreads, I had the (apparently wrong) impression that it was still an interesting place.

Nope. We're putting up the grey vinyl and painting the lanes on the streets as we speak.

It's not THAT bad, but it is genuinely different, yeah. It's... protestier... angrier... which spreads beyond Harper to gender-neutral pronouns and veganism and all this horrible shit.

Protestier, angrier, drunkier?

So Harper has made St. John's MORE like St. John's. I wouldn't call that a change

I'm from Quebec, I can tell you that people will find things to protest against regardless of who's in power. It's not Harper, it's you.

Yeah, I think we're on the same page here.

Whenever I'll finally visit St. John's (if I can resist the temptation to save money by changing that flight's destination to Western Europe instead) I am very confident it will still be there in all its aspects despite Harper's efforts.

I believe in taking a reclamation point of view. The 49th parallel was a mistake, and not fighting for northern Maine. So...

I say Minnesota, the two Dakota's since they shouldn't be separate states anyway, Montana (along with the handle on Idaho), Washington, and Maine. Even though we're aiming for 5 states, we should include one territory. I'd pick Guam. Its beautiful, warm, and only a 24 hour flight away.

My map isn't based on my political viewpoint Minneapolis and Seattle would lean left, the rest would be relatively right leaning and that encompasses quite a bit. Its just a view of what would be great to acclimate into a more advanced democracy.

The first order of business would be very un-Canadian-like. I'd take a Canadian bomber jet and implode Mount Rushmore. OR if we are to be less dramatic, just use some good old dynamite on the ground. It'd leave a canvass open for retouching into MacDonald, Pearson, Trudeau, and for good measure why don't we include the father of hospital insurance - St. Laurent. Or if we are to be politically correct, include Diefenbaker just to have another conservative on there. Or maybe William Lyon Mackenzie King for leading during WWII and the depression in lieu of St. Laurent.

This is a no brainer... California and Florida, that way travel between Canada and the USA would be simple. No more hassles at the border asking about oranges. It would just be a simple drive across the border. LOL!

Ah, such a practical idea. That is, if you're not dealing with a militant American public voting for security hawks in Washington.

Which leads to the next great question:

Which four Prime Ministers should be placed on the reclaimed Canadianized Mount Rushmore?

My choices:
- Sir John A. MacDonald
- Sir Wilfred Laurier
- Sir Robert Borden
- Brian Mulroney (you could use his chin as a ski jump).

Note that I did not include MacKenzie King or Trudeau. Longevity does not equate with greatness.

We should negotiate. I'll give you one Pearson in favour of one Diefenbaker. Trudeau stays. Going once?

The ones we should have gotten in the first place: Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Maine. Then I'd add everything from Idaho east till you hit Lake Michigan. (The 42nd parallel would be our new southern border).
