drove past this last weekend en route to Changi - the amount of cranes / pile drivers is mind-boggling.

It will be connected by a future road, pedestrian bridge, and subway station.

Wow, amazing. I saw this a while back but I never knew what it was called. It actually inspired me. The flower shaped building is amazing and the nature/concrete connection is such a great concept in this design. And yes, the amount of cranes is mind blowing.

Incredible development. Can't wait to see this completed. A part of the Singapore landscape is sure to change.

I just returned from a 7.5 week trip through Southeast Asia (Vietnam / Thailand / Laos / Cambodia / Malaysia / Singapore) and of course I took thousands of photos including lots of construction updates in cities like Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Seeing as Singapore was the last city I've visited I will start with those photos.

Photos were all taken within the last 4 days.

Glad to see the main towers are finally rising. Why is it that they decided to build all at once instead of phases?

This is a single project which combines a casino, with convention facilities, hotel, retail, entertainment and a museum. They target to complete by end of 2009 or 2010. That flower-shaped building is the Art-Science Museum.

Upon its completion, there will be a new road system to connect it, a new subway station (which will be ready later), and a pedestrian promenade along the waterfront.

Besides this project, there are several other projects nearby which should be opening in 2010.

I met Moshe Safdie 2 years ago... he gave a little talk about this very project. My favorite part is that, in the center of the flower-shaped museum, there is an oculus which is designed to turn into an awesome fountain on the inside of the building during a rainstorm. From what I understand, it rains frequently in Singapore.

Great photos. R@ptor, I'd really appreciate a Saigon construction update. There's a regular update thread for it on ssc, but the more the better.

Indeed the rains here can be sudden and intense. Its a great way to capitalise on all that rain and turn it into a spectacle!

Not exactly... when it rains through the Pantheon's oculus (a rare event), it often turns into mist before it hits the floor, since it's so much warmer inside the building. The Pantheon's oculus is more about bringing light into a big dome in an era before electric lighting and glass windows.
