Thanks WildCake for clearing that up! I have a thing about parking lots in this city. Not arguing about the necessity in many cases, but I hate how windswept and barren most are. Very little thought to landscaping. Sometimes they look good in renders but are soul-destroying in real life.

Maybe to clarify, the parking in the render is not park and rides. The park and rides are in the hydro corridor. One of the lots is actually for Buhler too.

The parking in the render is for the development. This is replacing a Manitoba Housing development? Is this being done by them or someone else? I'm assuming a private developer purchased the land.

The buildings are owned by SAM Management, which is a non-profit organization. They are replacing the townhouses which were built in the 1970's because they are getting run down. The new buildings will still be non-profit housing owned by SAM Management.

The project is replacing the current low income housing over four phases. The new apartment buildings will be a mix of market-rate units and subsidized-rate units. The current daycare is being demolished and a new daycare that is double capacity is planned for the main floor of the 1st phase.

The Cambridge project is asking the City for a 1 year extension to finalize securities, confirm required easements with utilities, and register the plan of subdivision with Land Titles Office. Could be a while before we finally see activity on the site but at least it is good to hear things are still moving forward.

This building is actually going to be pretty skinny.

I think the design is pretty nice. It's going to look great when it's done!

Ya I'm surprised they didn't go for an L-shaped design to use more of the site for apartments. But to be honest the fact that this properly fronts the street is the big win and what's behind it I don't really care about!

Setting anything further back would just bring it closer to the rail line and scrubby railway property. I agree that it's a big win having this front Pembina like the brand new Point just a bit south. Too bad the proposed design for the apartments on the Cambridge Hotel site have a parking lot fronting Pembina.

Is that a fait accompli? Has it already been approved, or is it necessary somehow because of the site itself?
