So, a couple times a year, L.A. switches gears from an automotive-focused city, shuts down it's congested East and South L.A. streets, and turns into a pedestrian wonderland. They call this cicLAvia. These are the pictures from the October 2011 event.
As you can see, I have rolled up my jeans in preparation for my big biking excursion.
And so I set off....
Seems like there was more then just cicLAvia happening on this lovely October morning....
Very cool! i was hoping someone that participated would post pics! i walked the majority of the downtown route and it was great to see. Spring street was a sight to be seen.
My wife and I got caught up in this Sunday on our way to celebrate our 2nd Anniversary in Pasadena. We had stopped at the Urth Cafe for a cappuccino and ran into road blocks everywhere as there were hundreds, if not thousands of bikers everywhere. The one time we had to watch out for bikers instead of cars when crossing the street.
This was the one time I didn't mind all of the traffic delays we experienced, as downtown was buzzing for sure. We should have taken out our bikes for this ride, very festive scene.
Very nice pictues! Is it me just me or are there some vacancies along the way downtown that used to be filled with retail not too long ago?
The only retail that i can see in these pictures that has closed down was Angelique Cafe, but that is being rebuilt as a different restaurant. Some of the pics actually show retail spots that have been vacant for years being built out for new restaurants so i would say its the opposite lol
Fort Worth is having our first event of this type on the last two Sundays of this month. It's good to see what this event would look like. Thanks for the great photos.
Looks like you took a page out of Kingofthehill's book.
Nice pics.
I actually thought about that! It seems we both have a similar mix of food/people/buildings. However, while he prefers to focus on the more gritty side of cities, I photograph (or try to) the more clean, gentrified parts.
