It has happened before. The North Tower of the old World Trade Center caught fire during construction and the Shanghai World Financial Center caught fire during construction. Everything will be put out and repaired.

The news here in Finland said the fire only damaged two top floors so I don't think this will be a major problem.

Owner of Fire-Stricken Moscow Tower Investigates Damage Caused (Bloomberg article)

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-0...ge-caused.html

By Henry Meyer and Stepan Kravchenko - Apr 3, 2012 10:58 AM ET

The owner of the unfinished Federation Tower skyscraper in Moscow said it’s investigating damage caused by a fire to see if it will delay construction.

“We’ve taken a time out to see if this affects our construction schedule,” Yulia Brazhentseva, a spokeswoman for Potok8, said by phone today.

Two fire-fighting helicopters were deployed to help extinguish yesterday’s fire on the tower’s 66th and 67th floors. The blaze broke out about 8 p.m. in Moscow after wind blew a protective banner onto a light projector, the developer said.

The tower, which was originally planned to be Europe’s tallest, was built with concrete that can withstand a fire for as long as four hours, Potok8 said in an e-mailed statement. “The building frame itself wasn’t damaged by the fire,” it said. The blaze was put out four hours after it started, at about midnight, the Interfax news agency reported.

There were no injuries from the fire, which affected about 300 square meters (3,200 square feet), according to a statement on the Emergency Ministry’s website.

This is only a mild hiccup in the construction. Nothing was really damaged, so no harm done. Might set construction back by a few weeks though.

Few weeks seem like an eternity for this particular project.

Be nice if its at least topped off. It really annoys me when two (or multi) tower projects like these when the smaller building(s) gets built first. They should have built the taller one first so there are less chances of things like fires, financial crisis, etc. The longer a construction project, the more things simply can go wrong.

Look at WTC2? The best looking amongst the WTC towers and yet its the one that ain't gonna get built (due to lack of tenants) cuz they did it last instead of doing it first (after Freedom). If they did it first, whatever tenants the WTC has now would have gone there instead of the other smaller, lesser towers.

Look at EAP (Calgary). The taller building gets built first, economic uncertainty, but they won the gamble so it gets filled. Whatever spillover goes to the baby brother, which is now getting built as well. But even if they "lost" the gamble, the taller (hence prettier one) gets built.

So for the Federation Tower, if the taller one got built first, even if the smaller one gets delayed due to fires, financial crisis, and so on, it wouldn't hurt so much....

This may not be the most popular thing to say: but those orange flames on top of that building are beautiful!

This is the first part of the reports on the vertical transport of the Federation complex. Today, we are going to tell you about the unique system of two cabins in the same elevator shaft. ThyssenKrupp Elevator is the first and only manufacturer of elevator equipment, which has implemented the idea of the simultaneous motion of two cabins, moving independently of each other in the same elevator shaft. In one shaft, the two cabins are located one above the other and use the same rails and doors. The cabs can independently move up to the floors, located one above another. Each elevator has its own drive with a drive pulley, and its own counterweight.

In the Federation Tower West, there are two unique ThyssenKrupp lifts with transparent floors. This feature allows passengers to observe the elevator shaft of the tallest-to-be skyscraper in Europe as well as the movement of the second elevator cabin in the shaft.

P.S. Sorry for my english

So it appears work is resuming after the fire?

I could not find anything about the tie-up or why this building is on hold. Is it financial? Does anyone know?
