Could be a matter of weeks....or years. That's the Vancouver office market for you!

Once all the leases are done, and the restaurants and stores move out.

I know what you mean, but there "classic" buildings done in the International Style (not those slight rounded corners and fine ridges up the sides, as this one: too busy, somehow).

An example is La Tour de la Bourse, built 1967 in Montreal. Its classic lines could be as relevant in a new building today as they were then.

Couple of new renders as well as details of the public art expected from the development.

Quote:
An architecturally integrated LED artwork ranging across the south and east facades of the building is proposed. The placement, programming and arrangement will be developed by the artist in collaboration with the project architects and will be sensitive to the concerns of the neighbourhood.
Quote:
The following artists have been selected as artists for consideration due to their extensive experience in the fields of both art and technology, experience essential to the success of this project:
• Jason Bruges Studio (United Kingdom)
• LAb(au) Laboratory for Architecture and Urbanism (Belgium)
• Mader Stublic Weirmann (Germany)
• United Visual Artists (United Kingdom)
Quote:
The intent of the 745 Thurlow Public Art Program is to engage an artist to develop content for the integrated LED façade(s) and this will define the scope of the artist’s work. This approach could be considered new media or interactive art and has been pushing the boundaries of contemporary public art by not only utilizing technology but, by engaging the public as a multitude, creating a public realm that contains and provides a communal experience.
The objectives of this public art approach comprise:
• Thematic significance – a development of content that speaks to and of the City of Vancouver, generating a dialogue about what it means to be a city that is Northern, frontier, young and modern
• Suitable scale – the façade will be of a scale of significant impact, ensuring that it is highly visually accessible to the public (without detrimental effect on neighbouring residences)
• Providing light and colour to the cityscape to augment the existing palette and light conditions
• Utilize the latest technology to integrate a façade that is as elegant as it is innovative
• Openness to a comprehensive range of artistic possibilities,
• Assurance that the public artwork and its programming will endure the test of time, so that it can be enjoyed for generations.
The renders I do have with the led lighting are of unshowable quality, sorry.

Are the looking for a height bump or are the renderings just decieving? The renderings show the Bentall building very definitively towering over Carmana Plaza, when in actuality Carmana Plaza is 8m taller.

Probably just a little creative license on the part of the marketing team over at bentall, but interesting nevertheless.

Thanks for the info J

hmmmmmm keep a watch on that, please. That height conflict herein cited, and the official render of this building ......you tell me......might lead to further more serious "complications," perhaps or perhaps not. Nobody wants the wool pulled over their eyes. (though I gotta admit I like the taller version better.)

Hopefully they'll consider LEDs on the alley side - i.e.the Robson side that is least likely to interfere with neighbouring residences (unlike the other 3 sides).

The LED lighting will only be on the South (Robson alley and East (Thurlow) sides. Height is staying the same at 91M and I have not heard any ramblings of Bentall going reapplying for more height.

It already intrudes 2ft into the viewcone at 302ft in one section. Just looked at the viewcone map it doesn't not appear the it would benefit from triangulating like Shangri-la did as the whole site falls inside the cone. This project also already has an FSR of 16.1 which will be one of the densest buildings in the city.

i actually prefer the shorter, current height, otherwise it would nullify the design consideration that went into Shangri-la. The architecture sucks balls though. Why can't Vancouver have buildings that don't look like 2 or more buildings mashed together...

Thanks. Should provide a good show from Robson and Joe Fortes.

Nothing new to report, just hearing positive rumblings on this one. Maybe an announcement of sorts soon?
