Masquerade finds temporary home at Underground Atlanta

Hopefully this works out long term

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/n...derground.html
Quote:
The Masquerade will move into Underground Atlanta in late October and would stay three or four months initially, said Kevin Rogers, development officer with WRS Inc., the hopeful redeveloper of Underground. The relocation would give The Masquerade a few months to solidify its long-term location.

yeh that needs to be the long term location. i presume that if the development deal goes through with underground that they may need to move somewhere else due construction though. my understanding is the sale of underground has not gone through yet. i was originally on board with the westside location off Huff, but it really doesnt make sense. there is no public transportation, not really walkable from anything, and the beltline wont be through there for years. if they dont stay at underground, i hope they find a venue somewhere downtown

Colony Square Redo

Some tidbits from the Let's Talk Midtown meeting at Colony Square...
  • Specialty Retail - They are pursuing retailers such as Eataly but do not yet know if Eataly will come to Atlanta.
  • Boutique Movie Theater - said that there are 3 boutique movie operators that are looking to get into Midtown.
  • Restaurants - They are talking with many of Atlanta's best chefs & restaurateurs who do not have a presence in Midtown proper.
  • Flagship Retail - Did not give any specific names but the obvious Apple store is still in the updated renderings.
  • New building - The new tower at 15th Street looks about 20 stories and could be office, residential, hotel or mixed use. They are still studying which use will work best for the plans.

Colony Square redeveloper sheds light on possible new tenants

The Business Chronicle now has a story on this.

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/n...-possible.html+

Quote:
The first phase could deliver in July 2018. The renovation could boost the retail space from about 160,000 square feet to up to 220,000 square feet, Toro said.

And regarding flagship retail, Toro said the team is talking to those brands that are looking for a “billboard” location in metro Atlanta. He didn’t name specific retailers.

Burgerim coming to Metropolis

https://www.bisnow.com/atlanta/news/...ant-fray-65883
Quote:
An international chain of mini-burger restaurants called Burgerim (pronounced Burger*Rim) has inked a deal to open its debut eatery at the Shops at Metropolis off Peachtree Street. Keller Williams' Charlie Gonzalez, who is representing the franchisee in the Metro Atlanta rollout, says further locations are being eyed in Decatur, Alpharetta and Sandy Springs.

A gourmet mini-burger restaurant that also serves beer and wine (sort of like an adult Krystals), this California-based chain now has 170 locations across the globe, including in Romania, Germany, Russia, UK, Indonesia, Australia and Singapore. Burgers are only 2.8 ounces, but come in 15 different flavors, company officials say. Charlie says typical locations range from 800 SF to 2,500 SF, "with a sweet spot of 1,500 SF." The Midtown location, though, will be nearly twice that size to allow for live music, Charlie says.

Apparently The Punchline is not coming to Peachtree. Those signs were put up due to a "misunderstanding" according to the owner.

Live Music Venue Planned for Sweet Auburn

http://atlanta.curbed.com/2016/12/16...venue-downtown

Quote:
Plans call for the creation of a 1,200-person live music venue in a former YMCA building just a block from Sweet Auburn Curb Market and the Atlanta Streetcar line.

Invest Atlanta has announced a grant to help bring the Sweet Auburn Ballroom to fruition. Thanks to the newly created Resurgens Fund, brought about by the Eastside TAD, the project will get $1 million in support.

Atlanta Dairies lands department store, café

These kind of home-grown businesses that I wish would land in Midtown more often but for whatever reason is not happening.

http://atlantaintownpaper.com/2016/1...iries-project/
  • Collier’s Department Store will offer “everyday conveniences” like cosmetics and personal care, baby and kids, furniture, denim and workfare for men and women, home decor, confections, stationery, and books. The 10,000 square-foot store is from the team behind The Merchant, Archer Paper Co., Read Shop and Collier Candy Company.

  • The café by THRIVE Farmers will be located in a 2,000 square foot space and feature a menu with a “farmer-focused foundation,” including artisan, handcrafted food, and beverages

The Canteen is going to be a hit and I cannot wait for it to come to Midtown. Lots of solid local selections included at an active location with a stable (GT), yet vastly growing (CODA, NCR, Modera, Alexan 880) customer base.

That is great to hear that the Candler Park Market is expanding. I was also thinking about the department store that is going into The Atlanta Dairies development. It's almost like the return to the city has allowed for the return of the mom-and-pop, local establishment. Plus its just great to see so many intown 'hoods coming back to life.

This is certainly a thing and I'm glad it's happening. More local shops, the better.

I am also excited for Anh's Kitchen coming to Viewpoint in Midtown. Nice to see a growing mix of options in Midtown.
