Elbow Park - Arts & Crafts

I design houses here in Calgary (drop me line if you are looking for a home design!) and lately I have fallen in love with Arts & Crafts style homes. Perhaps the best collection of this style is found in Elbow Park. Some, if not most of these homes date back to the early 1900's and are great examples of their style. The home owners have put a lot of effort in keeping these homes in great shape and I hope they remain this way. I hope you enjoy the tour as much as I enjoyed walking thru this beautiful community.

my favourite

Gorgeous! Thanks!

Our house is a 1924 Craftsman bungalow and I must say that I really admire how sensitively some of these have been updated- really nice choices for newer windows in many of them, for example.

Lovely. In an ideal world I would be able to own one of these houses in Elbow Valley eventually. My fiancee from Toronto is mezmerized by these craftsman style houses in Calgary - which are very different from the Victorian and Edwardian brick houses in Ontario. I think one of the conditions of us moving there in a few years is that I will eventually get her one!

Elbow Park =/= Elbow Valley

But before you drop 800,000 for one of these in Elbow Park, do poke around other inner city neighbourhoods- Sunalta in particular is packed with Craftsmen and so is my Bankview. Tuxedo Park, Mt Pleasant, Mountview, etc etc. north of the Bow deserve a look too.

Timely thread for me.

I do some woodworking as a hobby and have been really touched by Greene and Greene and the Arts and Crafts style. I have been trying to find some neighbourhoods in Calgary that have some of these homes in them for my next move.

Thanks for the pictures!

I always liked Park Hill for arts/crafts homes.

Indeed, once of the nicest streets in Calgary. Thanks.

Actually my favourite street is Garden Crescent just to the north there. Tiny little street but very unique and cool if you have a chance to see it.

my boss lives on the corner of garden crescent and elbow drive. he throws the company christmas parties there. it's the large brown home with the 6' wall surrounding it.
