As reported by mdiederi, since Blackstone is purchasing the Hilton chain which includes the Waldorf Astoria, all projects will probably be slowed until the takeover is complete.

De-Theming Luxor

http://www.lvrj.com/business/8451727.html

Should we expect de-theming of Paris, Venetian, NYNY, Caesar's, Bellagio, Rio?

Ummm... I don't think so. Sahara quite possibly.

Speaking of Sahara
http://www.lvrj.com/business/8451747.html

Sahara is much more dated than Luxor is. I wonder what will happen with it. For the time being I guess it can be salvaged somewhat like they say with some new retail or dining but in the long run I don't see it doing well againt beasts like Fontainebleau or the MGM project across the street.

Or maybe they can miraculously keep it mostly intact far into the future when it becomes the last strip hotel from the early days. Frontier will say goodbye next monday. Nascar may even be popular by then so the cafe will be the hippest place around.

Well if MGM gets their hands on Paris, Venetian or Caesars then they would be de-themed.

I was never a big fan of the inside of Luxor but I can't see the point of another bland, expensive twenty-something place where drinks cost $20 and rooms will triple in price. IMO the only reason MGM are doing this is to try and attract the Paris Hilton type crowd

Hey, just trying to keep things real. I'll take that as a compliment.

I love the Pinnacle project and would very much like to see it built. I hope I'm wrong.

You're probably right about that. The "Paris Hilton type crowd" is used to overpriced things and spend their undeserved money freely. So, from a bottom-line point of view, it makes sense that MGM Mirage reinvents the Luxor.

The baby-boomers don't like spending money and happily settle for less glitz. Unfortunately, there won't be much left on the strip for them after, say, 2011. They will migrate to the locals dives and downtown.

So, what to do with Excalibur? The 4,000 room mistake, in the middle of the action can't be reinvented due to the small (motel 6 type) rooms. Will they actually implode the whole thing so they'll have something nice to connect with Luxor and MB? I'd love to be a fly on the wall at the MGM MIRAGE offices.

Those baby-boomers, I think, will like the new, nice Las Vegas, definitely the ones that enjoy gaming. (If not come to Biloxi ) Just look who has frequented the Bellagio. My parents, who do not gamble, went just because they heard it was incredible. It disheartens me though that Las Vegas is going for the whole CityCenter Paris Hilton Hip crowd though because I have spent a good amount of time on the CityCenter site, and the rooms are just ugly. I just personally hate that seventies revival modern style. The Wynn/Bellagio/Ceasars opulence is what I hope the Fountainblue/Echelon/Plaza projects go for. I do believe that Excalibur will be demolished, but MGM Mirage will probably do it after the possible Atlantis project is built to see if that partnership style works well. Monte Carlo would be the next one they would try to de-theme, at least that would be my guess.

It was a compliment also

everyone needs to calm down with the 'its old - implode it' additude.

vegas was built off off this out-look but that doesnt mean *every* hotel will be imploded eventually.

ive said this before and still stand by it that the excalibur isnt going anywhere. its one of the largest on the strip and utilizes the site very well. and it is one of the busiest casinos, its NOT lacking in the profit margins. luxor is quiet, people are goin to the 'hip' mandaly bay or the 'fun' excalibur to gamble.

i can see why de-theming the place will modernize it and rejuvinate it to attract people to stay, plenty of people rent rooms there, they just do not gamble there.

paris, venetian, nY NY, excalibur etc wont ever be de-themed. just because themed hotels are not attractive anymore doesnt mean they should all go away. these themed resorts definitly attract its share of visitors specifically for the fact that they are themed. *new* resorts would not work well as a theme because it has been played out and the successful ones are the ones that remained. Palazzo is a themed hotel...sorta, i guess its comparable to bellagio being as a 'themed' hotel. its more of a 'style'. similiar to how mandalay bay is more of a 'style' than a theme

Was 'Plaza' deal a SCAM by Ruffin and Trump all along?

Remember I told you guys to be suspicious?

Remember I told you it could be Trump and Ruffin just trying to sell condos in Trump Tower 2 ?

Buyer beware. Thank you.

Hmm, well, he was right about MGM buying that corner lot. We'll see if he's right about this one. Maybe they are going to build something else? Ruffin must have gotten his money, or why else would he be closing the joint?

Jazfingr removed the Plaza rumor from the update page on his website. Must have been just a rumor. I kind of hope they don't build a visual replica of the Plaza, we have enough pastiche retro buildings already.

what spurd up this rumor?

i know of some firms that are competed to get the plaza project - so either the firms are just trying to pick up any project be it a rumor or not or there are contracts going out to some firms to get design ideas......

either way fronteir is closing so thats good.

It would seem that you already have a Plaza New York, so I cannot image trying to replicate it too closely
