Mid City Huntsville announces three restaurants

The headline reads "Three eateries join Mid City Huntsville",https://www.al.com/business/index.ss...idcity_li.html

However, one has already been announced (Alchemy Lounge) and the other is a relocation from RCP Companies sister property, City Centre located in Downtown Huntsville. Wahlburgers, which had previously announced their plans to locate in City Centre has changed their minds and opted for Mid City Huntsville, instead. Rascall Flats, named for the country music legend, "promises a Southern-inspired menu, live nationally-recognized entertainment with sound stage, a bar and retail space." alchemy Lounge is set to open in June in The Camp at Mid City next to the traffic signal on University Dr.

It is quite interesting that it now appears that Mid City Huntsville appears to have the edge over City Centre and Constellation (which are both adjacent to the Von Braun Center)in attracting restaurants. Perhaps, it's because there are a large number of workers within a close proximity to Mid City (between Research Park, Redstone Arsenal and UAH) which provide a strong base of daytime lunch customers five days a week which is giving it an advantage.

City Centre was announced before Mid City, and Constellation was announced long before both (it seems like it was in the early years of the 2000's). Yet to tally the announcements, Mid City has Top Golf, Dave and Busters, and these restaurants today. City Centre has the A Loft by Marriott, and Constellation, while dirt is being moved, has yet to formally announce anything beyond the existing Springhill Suites Hotel.

The change in location for Wahlburgers doesn't look good for City Centre. RCP Companies has been the most bullish on the HSV market. Their third development, across the street from the Whole Foods shopping center, is progressing quite well, and the Chuy's Restaurant will be a welcome addition (and give Rosie's some competition).

They already announced the replacement for Wahlburgers a month or two ago. It's going to be Gemini restaurant and cocktail bar. It is more upscale than Wahlburgers. I think once the hotel is built and Gemini is on the ground running you will see a lot more action there. There is no way CityCentre is going to fail due to the popularity of VBC. Think of all the Broadway Theatre League shows and Havoc games and other events that happen there. People will flock to whatever restaurants are there.

Yep, you're right. I've been confusing Merchants Square and City Centre.

Demolition of the City Hall annex set to begin in a few weeks. This is part of the downtown master plan that has been posted here previously.

This eight story building will be located downtown between the Blackwell Tower and Twickenham Square directly across Gallatin Street from the hospital main entrance, There will also be a skywalk connecting main to theis new patient tower.
From WAAY TV
Huntsville Hospital is one step closer to expanding as they are now seeking the state's approval to add a new 250 million dollar patient tower.

Waay 31 spoke with Huntsville Hospital's CEO, David Spillers, to find out how they plan to pay for the multi-million dollar project and what obstacles could stand in their way. Spillers tells WAAY 31 the approval process from the state takes about 90 days, but design and construction will take about 24 to 30 months.
The 300 thousand square foot building will have 72 new patient rooms as well as 24 new operating rooms. Spillers says it will be about the same size as their hospital in Madison and the hospital plans to pay for the 250 million dollar project solely on their own.
"We get no tax support, we have to fund it out of our own operating funds and our own reserves. We always try to have a little bit of money left over, we've been saving for some big projects like this, knowing that Huntsville was going be growing, knowing we were going have to increase the capacity to be able to take care of the community.
Spillers says it's much like buying a house. They will use some of their savings and borrow the rest.
He also tells WAAY 31 the biggest obstacle could be someone objecting to the new patient tower once it's reviewed by the state.
"Part of this process is somebody could oppose us, I hope no one would do that I think it would be very detrimental to the community, but if no one opposes us we're looking at just over 3 years to have it complete.
Spillers also says this is one of several large projects they are working on to expand Huntsville Hospital and that over the next 4 years they are looking at about 500 million dollars in new investments.

I saw the crews there today beginning work on the inside I guess. I wonder how soon the parking deck will come down?

Looks like Toyota/Mazda site preparation is about to get underway. I drove by today and equipment has been moved in with more coming I think. I saw six 8 tire all wheel drive International tractors with single and double pull scrapers in tow, being escorted by ALEA and the contractor to where the old cotton gin was. On site already were over 12 of the same tractors with double pull scrapers. Several motor graders, a dozer, trackhoe and one or two similar tractors with large disc harrows were already on site. I don't think the contractor is local. I thought that maybe Reed Contracting would be doing the site prep, but none of the escort vehicles from the contractor had Reed's name on them, nor did any equipment. I know Reed has several tractors like these with pull scrapers, but I don't believe that they have this many.

Drove by today and they have officially started site work. You could see the dust from a mile away. It's going to be fun watching them make progress.

Lord do I miss living in The Tennessee Valley. There are hardly few places that are better to grow up in.

What's happening in Huntsville right now it tremendous, and I can't wait to see Huntsville and Decatur united under a single metro.

Another great addition downtown. A Curio by Hilton Hotel adjacent to the square. It will go where the old Hale brothers furniture building. The building was at one time going to become offices, but the building was so deteriorated that the renovations fell through. Huntsville will also complete streetscape projects along Jefferson to match it to the square and Washington ave.

This brings the hotel rooms downtown up to 800, just shy of the 1000 room goal.

I drove by the new Mazda plot along Greenbrier Road when I was in town a few weeks ago. The Greenbriar Parkway is complete to Old Hwy 20. This will definitely spur completion of it to I-65. I'll be sure to do some recce on the area when I'm in town next weekend.

That is going to be a very active construction area for the next year and half. Greenbrier interchange improvements are on the fast track as well.

Site prep began yesterday with moving dirt in the N.E. corner of Greenbrier Rd. and Powell Rd. Actually it is further north, near the location where the crop duster was located, but east of Powell Rd. and just south of where the creek is with the endanged fish. Silt fence was installed here and is being installed along the same creek on the east side and on the north side of Old Hwy. 20.
