It seems like the color of the skyscrapers form layers by street going south from Central Park. The front layer is a rose/limestone, then behind is black, like a backdrop. Sorry if that sounds insane ha.

The lowrise towers that border the park are perfect for the backdrop of larger and taller towers. Buildings like those are what hold a skyline together.

"The facade is fine. The building is fine. There's a critic for everything.
But make no mistake, this one is definitely a beauty and future landmark.
I can't think of a building going up anywhere better suited to its city design-wise."
- NYguy

It could've been, & should've been, a much more perfect facade . .
But it is a damn good building, despite my dashed high expectations . .
Overall, I agree with you, NYguy.
I'm happy for all of us, that we have "a beauty and future landmark" . .
"suited to [our] city design-wise". .
I do love Verre's strong suggestion of quirkiness . .

You could use that argument for any and everything. But there's really no such thing as "more perfect". I'm sure some people would have preferred the other facade, but some likewise would not. And I"m not just talking skyscraper nerds. Sometimes, you simply have to admire the beauty for what it is. It "could've been" a simple glass box rising, but we didn't get that either. This will be our year 'round Christmas gift.

Not to hijack this thread with another tower but the above pic really puts into perspective how tall CPT is now. Almost to the top of CitySpire so 800 feet or so now.

The photo above gives an even better idea.

RCA/GE/Comcast/30 Rock Plaza= 850'

53W53 from the looks of it now: 875'+...not quite solid 900' yet IMO.

So maybe less than 175' to go before top-out, I'd say.

Verre is looking great. What is this under construction building shown next to Verre here? Also a very cool building.
