Came across this today, I don't shoot a lot of controlled portraits but it never hurts to know some tips. Thought some people on here might like it. Then again maybe this is common knowledge.

Hey does anyone on here have any experience with micro four-thirds/mirrorless cameras (or whatever they're called)? Right now I'm thinking about getting a Panasonic Lumix DMC GF2-3 or a Nikon Coolpix L120.

Since I'm taking a lot of quick shots of just random streets without much of any setup, I'd prefer to just use a good quality point & shoot. That way I can use my dslr to simultaneously capture people portrait shots without having to fumble between switching lenses all the time.

Also, does anyone know much about the off brand external flashes? My friend really wants me to come take pictures at clubs and parties, but I'll definitely need a good flash for that....

These arent really p&c. They are very close to dslr in functionality and output. The sony nex is also a good way to go is you want a 4/3. The thing I like about this size is that you can use lots of old lenses like nikkor, rokkor and leica on them which opens up a worl of lens options. I love rokkor glass and the lenses are super cheap. You can get e-mount tv lenses to that are good quality and some have apertures as low .95.

I can't believe no one has posted a thing about Canon's pending 5D MKIII that's being announced tomorrow. I'm I the only Canon shooter here?

Depending on the IQ, I'm either getting one or will pick up a cheap MKII that will be flooding the used market.

I will be getting a new camera soon, I'd like to see a comparison between the 5D III and the 1Dx. 1D would have to be killer in low light to justify the extra $3k.

Oh my God that's amazing news, how did I miss this?? I've been waiting for this exactly so i can do your latter suggestion, cash in on a MKII.....would love the new MKIII but a MKII is still way better than what I use now (a 60D)

I was seriously thinking of going full-retard and get the 1Dx, until I got wind about the MKIII. I was smitten by the speed and insanely high ISO, but not $3K smitten.

As this will be my first FF, I'm going to need a need wide angle lens and I'd rather use part of that $3 grand towards that. If I was married, I'd tell the wife I had saved $3K by buying the 5D MKIII.

If I weren't married I'd have a D700 with the Nikkor PC-E 24mm, the 14-24 f2.8 and about 10 other lenses.

personally I'm waiting for a camera that's equipped with GPS,has a freaking laser on top, has diamonds all over the body ,and is is able to take awarding winning photos by itself ,all I want to do is hold it and let it do the rest...oh I almost forgot it also comes with a super hot chick as an assistant,and my budget is under $500

is this a full frame or aps-c?

Well, I've been saving up forever, and finally have enough for a d700. Now I cannot find one anywhere. Looks like I may be saving an extra $650 and getting a d800. Not sure just yet whether that makes me happy or sad.
