In Germany apparently traffic jams are called 'road snakes'. There's a joke associated with that:

How is a road snake different from a real snake? In a road snake, the asshole's at the front!

The San Francisco Bay Area: Number 3 in the nation (give or take, depending on who's asking) for traffic!

Who's got a picture of the Bay Bridge Toll Plaza? That is, without a doubt, the Bay Area's finest and most impressive traffic jam.

Chicago

For me, surface street traffic is more interesting. A couple of quick expressway photos. They are all jammed. Chicago has the second worst traffic in the U.S. after Los Angeles.

3-5 lanes on each side + 3 express lanes + 1 CTA line + 1 heavy rail Metra line = Madness

By Krzycho (Lake Shore Drive)

by Johnny Chiang (State Street)

By Rachel (North Michigan Avenue)

Last two are by NLiveris at SSP (Jackson Street)

(Dearborn)

the dan ryans not that bad, the first day of construction everyone was making a big deal of it while I sat on the ike (290) for an hour and a half. its gonna have its biggest problem if there's an accident since there aren't any shoulders.

That's the one. That's the penultimate Bay Area traffic jam, right there. Thanks, dimondpark!

How horrid and clausterphobic. Imagine an ambulance trying to get cars to pull over. Imagine the smell of hydrocarbons. Imagine the kids freaking out in the backseat. I would pull a Michael Douglas in "Falling Down" move, and just abandon my car.
