Albany, USA

Albany is currently capital of the New York State. It was the second largest city in the New Netherlands, back in the 17th century. The city has a diverse architectural composition, including a controversial expensive state complex.

The highest skyscraper in Albany

Controversial federal plaza

Excellent, comprehensive museum

Governors mansion

Gigantic parking lots

This one is very convenient for anyone visiting the city, that's where I parked.

The observation deck on the highest skyscraper can be accessed free of charge

19th century rowhouses

Impressive samples of Art Deco, Neoclassical and Beaux-Arts architecture can be found in downtown.

9/11 firetruck in the museum

I've always loved our State House. There's something Old World about it.

Thank you.

Yes, Albany was one of the most surprising visits that I've ever undertaken, in terms of how interesting the city turned out to be.

Indeed, Albany is a surprise. So many fine old buildings. I love the crazy modern federal plaza/buildings.

Albany is one of my favorite smaller cities. It has incredible urban little streets. The Capitol Mall is so bizarrely out of context and scale, but I still kind of like it (and I'm someone use tends to hate modernist urban renewal projects).

Same here. And yes, it does feel bizarre, when you step out of it, especially towards the little Victorian rowhouses, it feels like a completely different city/environment.

This photo thread tripped me out!! In a good way of course. One never gets to see Albany much on here and that's a shame.

Yeah, I can't help but hum "the Imperial March" whenever I walk through Empire State Plaza.

Great shots!
