I saw something on Instagram the other day that seemed to suggest that the lighting on Telus Sky is actually an art piece by Douglas Coupland. The funny part is I can't seem to find that anywhere except his Instagram account.

It is indeed a work by Coupland.

It has been mentioned in several places I think:

I think what some may have missed previously (which seems obvious now given what I've just quoted) is that the building's lighting itself is considered to be public art / the building's contribution to art in the public sphere.

It begs the question if future public funded projects can take this lead and simply spend a pinch more on design (say crown lighting or building lighting, etc.) and say that this is their contribution to public art. Pinch self-serving, but defensible potentially.

It looks great so far. Can't wait to see it when it's finished.

The lighting system is second to none! Going to be a real showstopper once it's fully built out. Wow!

This tower is certainly going to be skinny, skinny compared to anything else in that part of downtown. The floor plates at the top appear to be only about 70 feet in depth or so.

Perfect.

Besides the Bow, which ended up looking rather fat from some angles, Calgary has a lack of buildings that put style over function. This will be a nice breath of fresh air into the skyline imo.

Just wondering - why are the floor plates spaced so far apart on the one floor - just a few floors from the top - in this pic???

Could that be the floor that the fitness facility will be on? It could also be mechanical. Do you know what floor number that is in the photo? According to their website mechanical is on Floor 29 and the residential amenities on Floor 30.
