It seem's like almost every tower in Nashville has been sold this past year. Investors are going nuts trying to get a piece of the pie, and that's a real good sign...

5 billion huh? It would be nice if Mr. Frist (the largest shareholder in Nashville-based HCA Holdings Inc.) would throw in a few bucks to help get WES going...

I'm glad Hume Fogg has finally decided to build a gym. I graduated from their rival (Martin Luther King, Jr Magnet) this year and this was one thing that Hume Fogg students always complained about.

Another story about WES on the news.

West End Summit negotiations 'delicate,' HCA jobs stay

According to this story, the source of the funding is a two part deal. One part from lenders, (that's already in place) and the other part is coming from an unnamed equity partner. Apparently the terms of the deal between AP and the equity partner are what's holding everything up.

So let's look at what we have here. The project has a huge anchor tenant signed and ready to move in, has funding already in place from lenders, has the hole already dug, has incentives from the city, hotel signed on and ready to go, and two bickering partners who can't iron out the details. If this doesn't happen, it would be a fail of epic proportions.

I know I keep flip flopping about my feeling's as to whether this will happen or not, but after hearing that he has funding in place from lenders already, and that he has teamed up with a partner (even though they can't seem to work out the details yet) I'm feeling pretty confident again that this will indeed happen, and happen very soon. I just can't see it failing at this point. I just cant...

How do you feel about the design? I know some people aren't really feeling it, saying it's too modern. I rather like the fact that they are mixing a modern design with the old building...

That right there is what makes me think that article is a load.

Same here. I feel that Nashville needs to continue with its modern/post-modern architecture that some of the designs have, such as 505CST. It keeps Nashville up to date with other major architecture advancements around the country and the world.

Look at London, for example. They have the historic, tourist attraction buildings in central London. However they also have buildings (the Shard and "the egg") that bring the city into the 21st century.



It would be so cool if Nashville kept its "Honky Tonk" district around Broadway but mixed it with some modern flare and then have some more modernity around the SoBro area.

I think the cool design of the gym will also make the students of Hume Fogg appreciate the school that much more. Some students at MLK always complained about how old and decrepit the building was, not taking into account its historic importance. If MLK got an update this huge, it would change the moral of those students.

He has a few points about sustainability, but knowing first hand (being in an architecture program at UTK - where the professors are teaching us about sustainability) that architects and engineers are moving at a rapid rate towards sustainability makes his claims almost null.

I guess you will always have people who believe that the way architecture was when they were growing up is the way it should stay.

Yeah, and it should to a certain extent in various locations, but overall if done in a tasteful manner that doesn't overpower the surrounding original structures its not bad. What a lot of us in the architecture world often forget is that a lot of people (including myself most of the time) prefer to live, eat, and play in more traditional or historic structures.

Could be he is just being too stubborn and unrealstic, or maybe just too greedy. Who know's really. I do believe that once he realizes that he is about to lose it all, and that this is his final shot, he will come to his senses and agree to whatever term's he can get just to get it done. I also believe that it's crunch time and he know's it, and that's why I think that the deal will be done soon.

This is just speculation on my part obviously, but I really don't see him throwing it all away, and this deal not coming together. There is just too much on the table, and too much going for this project to fail. Everyone seem's to be on board but him, and I think that with all this news coming out recently it will push him to get it done.

I predict that we hear about a start date within a month...

I agree with what you're saying. I don't necessarily outright doubt that the project can't be built, I just think some of the things that you pointed out might make it slip. Palmer (or whoever) keeps beating around the bush in a dispute about various parts of the financing (which isn't a bad thing, especially when this much money is involved), but the real question is how long will HCA wait for this game to be played out. Even with the hotel, TIF, and another financing partner, none of this happens if HCA gets mad and runs to OneCity.

Also, can you post those update photos you mentioned earlier this week? Thanks in advance.

For what it's worth, this was said in the article/video.

I only took a few pictures with my phone as we left, and I was pretty hammered lol. They didn't come out all that great, and wasn't gonna bother posting them. I only took 5 picture's total, and two of them were a bus stop... Oh what a fun day that was! I would post a picture of my wife with Blake Shelton, (as she had a meet and greet with him) but she would probably kill me if she knew I was posting pics of her. Lol!

Edit: I guess I had 6 lol. Found one more. In the background you can see the Hyatt, and I was trying to get a pictue of the sign, but I don't think you can see it. When we came up on it coming down 2nd street and then turning left onto KVB, I was so fixated on how terrible the wall was, that I forgot to even see if the sign was up on the front.
