Sorry about that. I remembered the Clear/New Orchard CDP thread, but not this one.

Moderator, could you merge the two threads please? Sorry for the inconvenience.

It sure is better than what we have now, heh. This reclading is also much welcome around there, alongside the new Zibi project.

I'd say that it is decent, even though I'm no big fan of the brown stripes on the edges of the buildings.

Wow! Now, i like the little whiter patches (is it glass?) they added to the tallest building. It gives it a certain style. I also like the fact that everything won't be of the same color. I would have liked if one of the tall buildings was lighter, so it would match the small white one better, but then again, i like the project overall.

7/10.

Looks great! Dare I say better than almost anything we are building these days?

Would you call this update international style architecture?

Those renders seem too good to be feasible and actually executed - especially the ground and second floors. I would love to be wrong about this!

How come they're changing the cladding from red marble to this? I really wish they kept the marble, as the building is great as it is.

It's red brick. Personally I like the red brick too, it's very reminiscent of mill towns and goes with the some of heritage industrial buildings in the islands. Zibi's going to have enough new buildings that this is going to start looking bland next to them. It kind of looks like Place de Ville.

Red brick is falling off the building. That's why they have those metal canopies all around it.

I'll miss the look of the red brick. And with a few new buildings around Hull and the Zibi site, the heavy red brick would have provided a good contrast with the new modern towers, but if it needs to be done, then so be it.

Watched the entire presentation and it's still not clear when they'll start this project. I think it's by the end of this year? And I think it will be phased? No word on where they'll move all the civil servants during the renovations.

Terrasses de la Chaudière in for a major facelift
NCC board approves plan to replace brick with aluminum panels

Kate Porter · CBC News
Posted: Apr 12, 2019 4:00 AM ET | Last Updated: 3 hours ago

A prominent federal government complex in downtown Gatineau will have its brick façade removed and replaced with black and silver aluminum panels, a dramatic new look approved Thursday by the board of National Capital Commission.

The bricks currently covering Terrasses de la Chaudière have twice fallen off in the past two decades, posing both a safety risk and a liability for Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC), according to a report by NCC staff.

An earlier plan included rooftop gardens and solar panels, but PSPC and the designers found the budget wouldn't allow for them.

The complex has also been plagued by poor air quality, forcing the relocation of hundreds of employees, but this project is separate, NCC staff said.

Gatineau Mayor Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin was enthusiastic about the recladding, noting the complex was in need of a facelift. With the Zibi development being built nearby, he said the whole look of the area will change in the coming years.

The NCC approved a new landscaping plan for the complex last year. PSPC is expected to seek a building permit for the project by July.

It's unfortunate they dropped the roof top grades, and to a lesser extent the solar panels. That extra investment would have paid off in the long run for staff moral, environmental sustainability and energy savings.

PCL wins $217.6 million contract to complete the exterior re-clad of Terrasses de la Chaudière. Work should start this Fall and be completed by Winter 2024. Workers will not need to move out of the building.
