Took this last night, at Eglinton and Bayview...where an underground streetcar station will be for the future Eglinton Crosstown;

All aboard Ottawa's LRT train! This incredible time lapse takes us through the entire #OttLRT Confederation Line, from Blair Station in the East to Tunney's Pasture in the West. I look forward to making this trip in the coming months. #Ready4Rail

PARLIAMENT

PARLEMENT

St-Laurent is an impressive looking station given how far out of the central city it is.

Looks amazing.

As much as I love the Waterloo Region LRT project, I wish it could look as great as Ottawa's

I'm flabbergasted at the Parliament/Parlement fiasco. Not only is it confusing and a waste of space, but the station is a few hundred meters from Parliament. They should have named it for the cross-street; O'Connor. Keep it consistent with the other stations downtown.

As for St-Laurent, it was quite impressive as a Transitway station. It was overbuilt at the time, and the platforms now take two of the four original lanes.

Here's how it looked like before conversion;

I don't know, I like the Parliament/Parlement name. It sounds "international".

Not a fan of Parliament/Parlement either, or of unwieldy bilingual names of that sort. (Perhaps the feds, who ponied up a lot of money for this line, put backroom pressure on OC Transpo for this name?)

They could have named it O'Connor and placed a symbol representing the parliament buildings next to the name. This would have been intuitive enough.

I think this is what they will do for Tremblay Station which serves Ottawa's VIA Rail station - there will be a VIA logo next to the name Tremblay.

BTW, Tremblay Station replaced an old BRT station that was called Train. A BRT station called "Train" was confusing for some people. But I suppose they all ended up where they needed to go eventually.

St-Laurent never struck me as being overbuilt. At least not in terms of the infrastructure for passengers - it was always pretty busy.

Sure, the tunnel is massive but that's at least in part due to its location with the mall and its parking facilities on one side, and a multi-lane expressway (417-Queensway) that it has to pass under.

And had they spent another billion on it, it might have. As it is, K-W is really stretching the envelope (imo) in terms of viability of LRT, given its population. That they've achieved even this bare-bones line seems remarkable to me.

They're saying so far there's been around $3 billion in investment along the line

Yes, ion seems to be achieving its objective in that regard.

I always found it funny and a little surprising how open politicians have been stating that that was the primary objective.

Not people moving.
