Pretty much covered in the construction thread a while back...

Bell is cutting 19 jobs in Winnipeg, part of a large cut across the country. Several jobs cut at CTV Winnipeg.

Great move Bell, more voice tracking by out of town talent on local radio instead of people who live / know Winnipeg.

Apparently not in large numbers anymore... it seems that the only legit local news show left is CBC at 6:00. Well, there is CTV too, but it's basically no more than police press conference followed by weather followed by entertainment fluff repeated 3x over.

Yeah it's awful, it's so obvious the newscasters (from Vancouver) have no clue what they're talking about when they refer to certain areas or streets (re: "Pem-bye-nah"). I wonder what's going to happen with their massive studio and office space in 201 Portage that they just redid in the last few years. No sense paying for an empty studio.

It's a losing battle. Quality of local newscasts is approaching zero.

Crecom still fills up every year though.

I get the impression that crecomm is a gateway more to corporate communications positions, no? When I think of the people I knew who were in crecomm back when I was a student, most of them are now PR people for various companies or government agencies. I can think of exactly one who is doing broadcast news.

There are four streams. PR, media production, journalism and advertising. I think the split occurs starting second year.

^ Hey. Kronos, moved foreign investment in the Condo market to business.

It looks like an almost 2.75% increase over a year. Any ideas on the years previous? With several new large condo projects coming online, being constructed or proposed I'm speculating this is a new trend in the Winnipeg market from previous years?

I didn't even notice Global News Winnipeg was no more. But ya, it's funny listening to people pronounce Winnipeg streets. For me its Pem-bee-na. and Bishop Gran-deen.

Izzy Asper is probably rolling over in his grave knowing that his beloved TV network dropped some production in Winnipeg.

He'd probably be a lot more upset with the demise of Canwest.
