Well that's what I meant when I said the first and last(for a while) to crack the Top 10 List.

I don't follow. This is not a static list. Most of these towers will be gone from the list in two years. You're also forgetting One King which even helld the top spot.

Stantec Tower in Edmonton set to be Canada's tallest outside Toronto

GORDON KENT, EDMONTON JOURNAL
More from Gordon Kent, Edmonton Journal
Published on: September 16, 2015 | Last Updated: September 16, 2015 1:46 PM MDT

First the arena, then Connor McDavid, and now Edmonton is going to have a taller building than anything in Calgary.

The Stantec Tower under construction in the downtown Ice District has quietly grown to 66 storeys from 62, making it a 251-metre-high behemoth that will be Canada’s seventh-highest skyscraper.

“Just having the Stantec building at 62 storeys was a huge coup for Edmonton,” Downtown Business Association executive director Jim Taylor said Tuesday.
“If you now tell me that this building is going to surpass anything in Calgary, anything outside Toronto in Canada … this is putting Edmonton on the map as far as the country is concerned, as far as the continent is concerned.”

As well as becoming the Edmonton-based engineering firm’s new headquarters, the project — set to open in 2018 — will also feature about four floors of retail, a grocery store, a pedway to the adjacent hotel and access to a garden roof, according to a development permit released earlier this month.

There will also be 454 condo units on the top 36 floors.

Maybe within Canada but nowhere else. The design is too conventional to get noticed in the U.S. or Mexico. I like ICE district and the new version of Stantec is much better than the old, but really there's nothing groundbreaking about it. The new arena OTOH is cool enough to get noticed elsewhere.

Most designs nowadays have some element that tries to be unconventional or stand out. It takes more than that to get noticed. The first design, the placeholder, attempted this. Doubtful anyone will give the tallest outside of Toronto a slightly cocked head and a scratch of the chin. Maybe the tallest in the country as, in this case, 554 metres is pretty damn tall still.

Lol, yeah some of that is pretty over the top. It's just a tower and a well designed one at that, but jeez. I get the excitement, I mean I check the progress of the district every day but I really hope the end product can match some of the uber positive discourse surrounding it.

Iv'e never seen this much rebar before. They already poured a slab and it looks like they will be making it at least 8 ft thicker.

Every tower in Calgary needs to be built this way

Same goes for Stantec. Rarely see drill rigs at the bottom of excavations in Toronto. Bedrock is quite shallow here. No need for piles

you are right, I doubt Sudbury gets this national attention
Hard to know where to put the CN tower, is it a skyscraper? or a glorified smokestack design based off of the Sudbury INCOStack

^ The crane is for the St. Michael's hospital expansion, not Massey Tower.

I'm sure the crane for Massey Tower, will be coming shortly anyways.

Cannot rely on other members to do work confirming project updates, that is something I should really do myself.

Stantec et al today. Parking is cruising along but apparently another month or so of drilling piles.

Well worth the wait. Love seeing Edmonton's Downtown morph into something very special.

Think the general public isn't going to spend too much time debating over the CN Tower. I don't think they would confuse it's tripod shape with a smokestack.
