According to the Avant-Garde Construction and Management Inc. Facebook page the old Pastalli's Restaurant will be called CLOS restaurant. There are a few construction photos posted too.

Interesting name - I wonder what their specialty will be?

The place is being completely redone! Looks pretty snazzy.

CLOS is a french word for a walled vineyard, so I think that could narrow it down a bit.

Destination Maternity has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the US. They are the parent company of Motherhood Maternity, which has a store on Plaza Blvd, right next to the (closing) Paderno Factory Store. They are planning on closing about half of their network of over 400 retail stores.

No word yet regarding the fate of the Moncton store.

Lindt signage is now up at the Mapleton Centre

Understated, but elegant.

Metal studs being applied, and roof work being done at the new Milestone's restaurant in the Home Depot parking lot.

I'm sure the objective is to enclose the building before the snow flies so that work can continue during the winter. A spring opening seems probable. A previous rumour had suggested a February opening, but I think that highly unlikely.

Better picture of the signage at the new Lindt store at the Mapleton Centre.

Again, the sign seems awfully small and understated. I wonder if it will be lighted, or if there will be any further embellishments?

Work is furiously going on at site, with multiple contractors working concurrently. The anticipated opening date is Monday, October 28th.

'Understated' is the polite way of saying the signage sucks, it's almost like they are ashamed to be opening the store. Has anyone noticed if they added a sign to the back to be visible from the off-ramp on Wheeler? I'm dubious as to the traffic the store will attract so you'd think they would want to be as visible as possible.

Visually, the sign looks off. It's because the store has a split/offset face. The sign is centred on the overall store space, but because of the offset it looks wrong.

IMO, the offset part should almost have been ignored. Centre the sign and the door in the forward facing part, and the setback part I might even paint a different colour so it isn't as identical to the forward part. It would look more correct visually that way, and when you enter the store, you get a bit of a 'surprise' that it is bigger than it initially appears.

The lettering of the sign is virtually the same colour as the background. That's a major problem right there. There's a Lole store in the Plaza Blvd Centre which has the identical problem. The lettering is camouflaged by the background.

They should paint the header over the store a dark purple or something like that to make the sign stand out more.

The Lindt signage is awful, no visibility. Secondly, I'm not sure why this store is opening a freestanding location in Moncton and at that location, Champlain Place maybe. Lindt is the kind of chocolate you can buy at your local Shoppers Drug Mart or Jean Coutu, I think this will be a fail. Godiva would've been a bit more exclusive or high-end, just maybe. Good luck to them anyways.

Lindt signs glow from the back, ie backlit.

I don't understand the appeal either, walmart, winners and superstore have better prices on them. But I always see people buying lots. You can get some flavours or varities you can't find anywhere else and they give you a free one when you walk in the door

They also use outlet pricing. Like Outlet price $6.99 Retail Price $8.99

Nice montage of the current status and possible final appearance of the new Milestone's restaurant.

Whomever thought that sign should go there is nuts...that just looks totally wrong.

I understand it's centered over the main door but with the shape of the building façade that just looks strange...and why is it so "small"?

I think who screwed that up was the architect who designed that offset. Short sighted to think it wasn't going to mess up the signage for whatever store that occupied that unit.

I questioned the fate of the Motherhood Maternity in a post five days ago.

I'm never happy that I'm right when things like this happen, but when I heard they were planning on shuttering half their locations, I assumed the Moncton store would be in trouble (especially since this is an American chain, and American chains usually prefer to hive off their foreign assets at the first sign of trouble).

This is yet another example of the fact that whenever a store closes in Moncton, it's almost always a consequence of a failure of the entire chain, and not because of any weakness in the local retail environment.

This is especially bad news for the Plaza Boulevard Centre, coming right on the heels of the closure of the Paderno Factory Store. These two units are side-by-side, which could open up some interesting possibilities in terms of redevelopment. The owners of this retail development is Plaza Retail REIT, and they are pretty well connected. I suspect these units will not remain vacant too long.
