The prices are only absurd if you price this as a one-way flight.

I tried booking CDG-YOW-CDG (return to CDG on Apr 27) and the tango fare is $419 for the CDG-YOW leg !!!

And yes... a large block of seats appears taken.

At that price it's almost worth just doing a mileage run.

Interestingly (or rather annoyingly) the $419 only shows up with CDG as the start/end point. Try booking YOW-CDG-YOW with the return on April 14, and the best fare available is only as low at $471 (with April 1 being outbound YOW-CDG), or $1409 (April 12 outbound).

Was tempting to make a SSP Team-Building mileage run... but bumming around in Paris for 2 weeks would probably eat up any savings

Now back to your regularly scheduled workday.....

Mystery solved! Lots of Ottawa high schools are going on the Return to Vimy trip for the 100th anniversary. They come home from CDG that day. My sister is on this trip, safe to say I'm pretty jealous. Their first stop is London, and I just checked and AC888 on the day they leave (April 5th) is also a 77W.

That's cool. It's kinda like last year's one-off FRA-YOW-YUL on LH for the Women's World Cup.

Speaking of Germany, did anyone see the German A300 depart off rwy 25 last night at approx. 1730? That was the second time in as many weeks that one had been here. I'm guessing the German troops attending Fortissimo on Parliament Hill: https://www.ottawatourism.ca/events/ were on board.

Thirdly, WS have released their winter schedule. There's nothing too exciting for YOW. The increases to YOW-YYZ (12x) and YOW-YHZ (3x) remain for the winter period and YOW-TPA increases from 2x to 3x weekly [ops on days 357] (there's actually a typo on their website to 3x daily, LOL: http://www.westjet.com/guest/en/deal...ule.shtml)...I guess they're jumping on AC's reduction to 1x weekly. However, there's also a slight capacity cut to YOW-FLL early in the season as per a.net:
WS FLL-YOW OCT 0.1>0.0 NOV 0.3>0.1

A real exciting winter schedule announcement would be extending YOW-YEG and YOW-YVR to year-round. YUL-YVR is getting the upgrade this winter.

The Airport Authority have released June's pax totals:

Sector / Jun-15 / Jun-16 / % Change
Dom: 324,978 / 332,538 / +2.3% - record for June
TB: 49,778 / 45,806 / -8.0% - lowest June total since probably 2002.
Int'l: 23,022 / 20,420 / -11.3% - I know there were 5 or 6 cancellations last month, but considering that YOW-FRA was on a 333 for most of the month, that number is just brutal, especially with WG extending a weekly YOW-CUN for the first 1/2 of June. June's peak was 26,620 back in 2008 - the first-ever month of YOW-FRA ops and back when YOW-LGW on Thomas Cook and YOW-LGW/GLA still existed on Zoom.
TTL: 397,778 / 398,764 / +0.2% - record for June

Sector / YTD 2015 / YTD 2016 / % Change
Dom: 1,661,309 / 1,737,437 / +4.6%
TB: 407,130 / 365,936 / -10.1%
Int'l: 281,452 / 245,748 / -12.7%
TTL: 2,349,891 / 2,349,121 / -0.0%

12 Months Rolling / % Change vs Year End 2015
Dom: 3,564,757 / +3.8%
TB: 694,561 / -6.3%
Int'l: 396,272 / -10.1%
TTL: 4,655,590 / -0.0%

Didn't see it take off, but saw it parked when I was taking pictures of the AF 772 that was diverted here from YUL on Sunday afternoon. Was also a couple of QK RJs and TS 738s.

Does anybody know if the airport is undergoing construction? According to the NOTAM, taxiway Echo will be closed between runway 07/25 and the Apron, as of this Tuesday at 06:00L, until August 19th. This is the taxiway that leads to runway 32, so if planes want to get to 32, they'll need go from the apron to taxiway Charlie, to runway 14/32, then either take runway 14 to runway 07/25, take runway 07 to Echo and proceed to runway 32 or take runway 14 to taxiway Juliet and then to Echo.

As well, as of this Tuesday at 06:00L, taxiway Bravo will be unavailable to aircraft with a wingspan greater than 118 feet (36m) between the apron and 500ft east of the apron. So anything bigger than a 738/321 will have a blocked path to runway 25 or getting to the apron after a 07 landing. This is scheduled to last until September 30th.

The last few times I've been passing through the airport I've observed repaving of various parts of the aprons and taxi-ways. I'm just guessing the upcoming detours are all part of the repaving.

At the trans border gates, gate 2 ramp has a fair bit of construction traffic. I'm guessing a new jet bridge is being installed.

Here's another temporary transborder cut: AA PHL-YOW DEC 1.8>1.3...and another: UA EWR-YOW JAN 3>1.9...and another: UA ORD-YOW JAN 4>3

Obviously this means that AA are only going to operate 1x daily over the Christmas holidays...incredible! At this rate, AA's on pace to close their YOW station twice with the token amount of legacy US service they've retained at YOW.

When will the transborder bleeding stop for YOW?

The reduction in schedule doesn't necessarily translate into a reduction in available seats. I've noticed some of the EWR flights in the coming months are up to the E-170....Other than a few rare instances of the DH-400, EWR has been E-145/135 for years. ORD is also getting more E-170's over the smaller jets. The U.S. airlines are retiring their small jets (CRJ-100/200 & E-135/145) for larger jets, so with that comes the likely reduction in service.

Can't have it both ways, I guess.

Never like to give up frequencies, but at least the reductions are confined to a month here and there so far. Plus, as a biz pax, I'll take the UA E jets and the ability to upgrade to E+/biz all day.

I noticed the same when I took a flight from PHL-YOW in July. I was surprised, to say the least.

True seat count can stay the same or even go up when frequency is reduced (the E-Jets are nice), but that's not been the case at all at YOW (or YEG, YHZ, YWG, etc.) for that matter. While UA may change equipment types, all YOW-EWR and YOW-ORD flights on the random dates I checked were on 50 seaters this winter, while the 2 YOW-IADs are on CR7s.

Which begs the question, why is the flight frequency now only 2x and still all CRJs? I wonder whether the Airport Authority ever tries to attract more frequency on existing routes or whether they're only ever interested in attracting new routes?

Trying to book US flight in October and it appears Delta has NO FLIGHTS AT ALL to DTW from YOW that month. Is this part of their computer glitch or is DTW-YOW cancelled period. Didn't check other months after that.

I found one in Oct, the 10th.

Flight bookings seem normal for November. I'd not be surprised if the system melt-down last week at Delta is impacting bookings.

Try calling in. Let us know!

Was a glitch on delta.com
Still two flights per day to DTW at 6:00 and 16:40
