Then you can be sure that Kannur airport will sink without a trace. In the context of
Kerala-Konkan, international traffic is easier to come as there are lots of Gulf travellers.
If there is only domestic service it can't dream of breaking even, At none of these airports
domestic traffic is significant.
See the domestic traffic at Mangalore & Calicut. Its very small.
Textile and plywood industry in Kannur together does not earn even Rs.1000 cr. How do
you expect it to generate domestic traffic when that's the only thing ?
Moreover, the info that you provided just goes to show that this proposal is fraud. The
data given by the "supporters" of the project justifies the need for an airport saying that
55% of Gulf travellers from Calicut & Mangalore are from Kannur and nearby areas.
(None knows if this itself is true - it was provided by some travel agents, apparently)
By showing the
"traffic" of intn'l passengers how is a domestic airport justified ?
Be sure, this is a real estate fraud in making. The project may or may not take-off, but
mafia will mint money.
PS: There is an incident narrated by one of the members of a central commission
that came to study agriculture in a some area couple of decades ago. The commission
went to village in Kerala to find ways to improve agri productivity etc. They sought the requirements
of the villagers. The villagers headed by the local leaders instead demanded that they need
an airport !! Mind you this is a real incident. Just to show you how easily people can be conned.
