Houston - miles and miles and miles

Last week I was driving to the doctor and passed a group of men trying to trap an alligator that had made its way into a fountain. I was furious. Next time it happens I want to have my camera handy.

Since then, I like to keep a camera with me at all times. There are two reasons for this:
1) I hate to miss a good picture.
2) It makes sense.

These were collected this week as I made my way around my whereabouts and did the things that I typically do.

Very nice.

That cracked driveway looks very familiar, are you sure you weren't in front of my house?

i was in houston for a job interview recently. i asked some people there about living downtown and was told that no one lives in downtown... is there any truth to that? i find it hard to believe... although from what little of houston i got to see did, it seemed like mostly suburban sprawl with a smallish city in the middle

There is housing downtown. But, just look across the freeways. It is cheaper and with better views and still within walking distance.

Anything inside the 610 loop is considered "urban Houston", venture outside that & it becomes suburban like sprawl.

There is a lot of housing inside the loop and quite a bit in the CBD as well. It's funny everywhere I've lived the people who live in the burbs always say "no one lives downtown." Which is always untrue and the same goes for Houston. I don't live in "downtown" meaning the CBD but I do live inside the loop so pretty much everything is about 5 minutes away with no traffic to worry about... but I guess all of my friends and I don't count to the people out in Katy.

And Metro Matt is right, if you want a diverse, urban feel stay inside the loop bc almost instantly the generic sprawl begins outside the loop.

Oh yeah...

Is that old courthouse going to get renovated at all? It's a county building right?

There are a few residential buildings in downtown proper and another apartment tower with 300+ units is currently rising.

That said, there are many residential neighborhoods right outside of downtown like Midtown, Montrose, Third Ward, Near Northside, old 6th Ward, and old 4th Ward. Right beyond those you'll find Rice Military, the Heights, River Oaks, Upper Kirby, Museum District, etc...

yes, it's the old county building and they are getting ready to do a mjaor renovation on it soon. right now, they are looking for anyone with historical photographs of the building (inside and out) to return it to its original condition.
