How do you get around?

Hey, just wondered if anyone on here had interest in posting up what they use to get around...whether it be OC transpo pics, bicycles, Motorcycles, your Vehicles, etc...

Since I'm moving there, I had to get a different vehicle, especially considering the state of the cities streets last winter (OMG....)

Here's what I had before...

Obviously not the best choice in vehicle, with the bad weather, and with only being RWD, and a 2-seater... I had bought it because I craved more power, and got tired of spending money on this:

So now, the Mustang was replaced by my current vehicle...

4WD, heated leathers, and power everything with a killer stock stereo, it should certainly do the trick for me in the inclement weather, as well as carrying around all the stuff one would have to in the city, including more passengers than just the front seat...

I know that this is a website about buildings and cities, and I'll post up pics of projects and stuff from around Ottawa as I get/take them. I just wanted to post up what I use to get myself around, and orientated with where I'll be living, starting this wkd...

I get around by standing in front of passing trucks, getting hit, and having it throw me a few feet until another truck hits me. A few broken bones but no worries about car bills!

Forget LRT vs BRT - that would be a case of CBET (Crude but Effective Transit!)

After an ankle injury a while ago I have returned to the terrible habit of using my car too often. It's a 5-door that has cost me way too much in repairs and parking this year and I regret not selling it as I had planned in March.

Ideally I'd be biking around town on my Nishiki or on the rainy/winter days the bus. I'm hoping to get more active in my commuting and I would love to get in shape so when the snow fell and bike gets put away I could begin running to work along the canal.

If money was no object and I had the space I needed to store them properly then these would be my rides:

For weekends, road trips, nights on the town and to look like Tony Soprano's top captain:

This is one mean machine. I saw a black one on my street last week and my jaw hit the pavement with a thud. It was my neighbour's dad's car, a gift from his wife. I need to convince my wife that those are the gifts that make a marriage.

For everyday work life, because I'm sick of Audis and Beemers and all those "pseudo-chic" wheels that everybody has:

Peugeot 607. France's Volvo, but a notch above the Sweedish box. Built for power and speed, with those sleek French curves I can't get enough of.

In real life though, I use my own two feet to get around.

Saw one of my all time favourite cars....a Citroen DS21 crossing the Champlain Bridge yesterday. It looked something like this..

Now there is a car to get the gallic heartbeat going.

Yeah, what a classic. I saw one too last week, maybe the same one - there can't be that many of them around. In Montreal there's a small fan club of those and when they get together it's quite the sight.

In Montreal last weekend I saw one of these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:2CVbsas2005.jpg, another French gem.

The 2CV and the DS21 have to be some of my all time favourites along with these babies.

None of these will go very fast but for some reason I like them.

The DS21 I saw had Ontario plates that said something like X TAS Y or some such personalized plate.

The Fiat and the Morris are classics in their own right, it doesn't matter how fast they go. That, for me, is the last glorious and unheralded era of car design. The Brits had some gems too, the Vauxhall Cresta, the British Fords like the Cortina Mk I, the Anglia, the Zephyr and the Zodiac, and all the pre-Mini Austins (like the Cambridge). I collect Matchbox diecast from that era and I am a big fan of those.

The Italians have re-released the Fiat Cinquecento in a modern-retro design that looks amazing, have you seen it?

Mille...minor point here...the cinquecento is the successor to the 500...and it is a new version of the 500 that you attached a photo of....I saw the 500 on Top Gear recently and it got a real thumbs up from those guys (which is rare as they are speed freak petrol heads).

This may be interesting to you.

Here I am in the ever-classy 1980 Ford Fairmont.

features:

- manual turn signals
- see through flooring
- am radio with knob
- mouse chewn seating
- classic rust spot paneling
- hubcapless wheels
- intermittent wipers and heater

ok, that's the old beater from my parents farm in Manitoba .. this is what I really drive - 2006 Ford Focus wagon.

I've also got a Jamis Citizen bike that's a couple of years old. Used to bike to work all the time, now I'm too lazy.

It's like a car, but it's a bike.

I use it to go everywhere.

Hey Harls, I recently sold my 1978 Mercury Zephyr 2-dr...those Fox-chasis cars sure steered and handled will with only a few minor changes like the ones that I made to my car (Mustang GT Cobra "Turbine" rims and Bridgestone Potenza tires, Mustang GT shocks, Moog HD swaybar links and poly bushings, Moog HD Mustang GT springs and a Mustang GT power steering rack). My old Zeph was able to keep up with BMW's and Audi's out on the 400 series highways in big turns, as the car was tight and it was also light and nimble.

Good choice on the Focus Wagon...

Oh yeah, I recently started doing some upgrades to the Escape (Synthetic Engine Oil, upgraded to Bridgeston Dueler A/T Revo tires, and a K&N Air Filter).

Could that car play 'both kinds of music'. That is an absolute beaut...almost as nice as my 1st car, a 1980 Acadian. A mechanic at Canadian Tire told me it was the fastest Acadian he'd ever driven (post repair test drive) and he was convinced it had a turbo engine in it.
