Here's CBC's take on the downtown development plan:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-br...ense-1.4712145

Quote:
Surface parking lots, estimated to cover more than 40 per cent of downtown, will largely be replaced by new buildings. The plans calls for most to include parking garages.

About 4,800 public and private parking spaces are available in the core, the plan states. It calls for that to increase to 5,580 as development occurs.

"Parking in downtown Moncton — that's on everyone's mind," Coun. Greg Turner said, adding he's pleased the plan calls for additional parking.
5,580 parking spots in the core should be enough IMHO, especially since they would be "shared use spaces", rather than bootable private spaces that take up land and suck the oxygen out of the downtown area........

I wonder if they will recycle the tower crane here to Tannery Place, just like they recycled the FiveFive crane to the Hyatt Place Hotel. The timing seems about right..........
I see the tower crane is up at the location of the new Hyatt Place hotel.

This is how Moncton's subway overpass could look after cosmetic upgrades that will cost $573,000.

CBC.ca

I have one wishes in life. Whoever is responsible for the above rendering get $0 of the $573,000 budget.

The facebook comments on this one should be fun to to read .

I see a few thousand in paint. Trying to figure out where the other 570000 is going.

I'm just gonna hope this is a horrible render. The most important thing with this subway is bright lighting at night and anything else that gives this a safer feel.

David, you could do a rendering (and design) 1000% better than this (and for free). You should give it a shot and send it along to the city for their inspection and consideration.

One good thing about this rendering though - it appears to show a truck entering the subway from the west, about to get trapped underneath it.

While I'm in favour sprucing up this monstrosity, two points come to mind.
= why are painting a bridge we don't own.
= the price tag is almost the exact amount the city "claims" it is short for rebuilding the East End pool.

The Bridge is indeed in need of repair. everytime you pass underneath there is a new chunk that has falen off. So I'm wonderring if there not planing to do what they did to the track section that is following Lewisville Road just before Wheeler Blvd, and place down a prefab section. It looks like a realy poor render of the same steel rails on that section of track.

I agree with these two points enthusiastically. Why are we spending almost what we need for the pool for the kids when we don't even own the structure? CN is terrible at repairing things. Anyone drive over the tracks at Lutz Street lately? In fact that entire street from the tracks to Record Street needs repair badly. I contacted the city and they said if budget permits it is due for total reconstruction next year. I then asked them about the potholes this year.... no response.

At the very least, $573k seems like an awful lot of money for some orange paint, lighting and signage. What gives???

Probably mostly for crack-fill, given the state the Subway is in.

Maybe they should go to Irving to sponsor the subway repairs. Paint it Kent Green and rename it the "Kent Building Supplies Subway". I'm sure they could give them the crackfill and paint at contractor rates.

From La Mine d'Or's Facebook Page.

Also, as part of this acquisition process, I have heard that the former Sears Watch Repair Shop will relocate to the La Mine d'Or building downtown and will reopen in the not too distant future.

I figured the lights could match whatever colours the Event Centre lights are using each night as kind of a symbolic gateway to the arena.

Great thought on the lighting!

The lighting could also serve as an alternative to multicoloured crosswalks for our LGBTQ friends.

Are you going to pass this along to city hall? Like I said, I knew you would come up with something much better than the crap rendering that was in the T&T.

I imagine there are rules somewhere from DTI limiting that sort of lighting on a roadway. It's a neat idea but i'm assuming it gets quashed somewhere by a bureaucrat worried about distracted drivers. I could be wrong.

The rest of the render looks nice. Having the simple MONCTON is a lot cleaner than rue main st.
