Site will need $8.1M to clean up based on this LFP article. The developer still hasn't submitted a development proposal.

great news of course, but I am dismayed by the cost of pollution cleanup from what was a Candy/Biscuit factory...you would think they manufactured PCBs or something.
Yes, I understand much of that pricetag is related to asbestos removal. Every renovation here at UWO costs a fortune for the same damned reason.

Clean up has commenced on McCormick's site according to article in LFP only $6 Million for reconstruction also restore building of that size seems ridiculously low.

Definitely got the heavy equipment on site now. Working on the west side on the building.

Appears to have stalled. Equipment is long gone and no visible progress in months.

London Fire Dept had to put fire out today. Site has been quiet for months and the vagrants have most likely made their way in and started fires to stay warm.

I assume the fire in Nov has forced them to put up blue fencing around the entire property in an attempt to keep out vagrants. Most likely a purely insurance move on their part as there hasn't been any progress on this redevelopment.

Based on first hand experiences, London seems to have a greater proportion of vagrants and ne'er do wells, relative to its size, than other Canadian Cities (except Vancouver, which is tops in this category, probably partially on account of the weather, but also, due to the severe drug problems in that city). My hometown of Montreal is no slouch in that department....when the weather got really cold (much more often than it does here), there were many sad instances of vagrants freezing to death.

In my experience, many vagrants had horrific experiences growing up (beaten, or worse, sexually abused), or are mentally ill (the powers-that-be have seen fit to empty the Sanatoriums and put the patients on drug therapy...they end up back on the street). The castaways of an uncaring, Doug Fordian society.

Your beloved left wing Socialist and pro union parties the NDP and Lieberals had solved the homelessness problems when they were in power in Ontario and other parts of Canada I noticed.

Some signs of progress finally as the warehouse part of building has been demolished on the north side. Alot of materials to be removed yet to get the site ready. Not sure how much of the main building white exterior will be savable given how much deterioration and vandalism has occurred.

No activity lately after the warehouse space was demolished a couple of months ago.

It's now March 2020 and zero activity on this site by Sierra Dev. The front doors along Dundas St have been kicked in so likely bad things are going on inside. Huge contrast to the progress we see down the road at Kelloggs plant.

Looks like the owner finally sealed up the doors again and put back the construction fencing surrounding the site. As we saw this week people are breaking into these abandoned buildings with a video being posted online of people exploring buildings at the old LPH on Highbury.

Well it didn't take long for one of the doors to be ripped out opening the building back up again.

Looks like this will see 2020 come and go and no work will be started on redeveloping the building and site. Not sure why this company has sat on this for so long. Beginning to think they will never start and the likely fate will be a massive fire and burnt out shell that will have to be demolished.
