Very cool design. And yes, the bird thing (an owl) with the Frost Bank Tower is a thing. I hear a lot of people talking about it in one of the downtown parks with a skyline view. My niece calls it her bear. lol

I had a lot of fun with this one. I gave the old version a spit shine, strayed from the usual earth tones, and added an obelisk to the top. I also updated the old rendering to match the max height given by Weston, although I know its not written in stone. It does have a bird reference at angles like the Frost in Austin (not sure if that's a bad thing). I'm thinking that the parking garage might be too small, so I suggest that there are a few parking levels underground for VIPs and such.
Very cool!!! I hope the new Frost Tower looks somewhat like that. I'm tired of seeing SA skyline sooooo 20th century. Time to let our city look like the future.

W Hotel

W Hotel San Antonio

Bowie / Commerce / Blum / Elm

580ft tall, 622ft to top of Spire

1250 rooms or maybe a mix with apartments & condos

Limited parking at base.

I guess this could be any hotel: Four Seasons, Waldorf, etc. (Hotel Denny's? lol), but since I've seen 2 different renderings of a W Hotel for downtown, I figure what the hell, why not a third? They must be really interested in coming to SA. With the relative success of the 7th day Adventists Convention, as well as the new Convention Center/Hemisfair additions, this city is likely to host many more 70,000plus conventions or events. Of course, with that comes the need for more hotel rooms, and space near the Convention area is becoming scarce, so I went up instead of out.

This would be the 13th tallest hotel in the US, 9th if you include the spire.

I was assuming that the La Quinta still owns the property east of elm by Commerce, so I figure rather than sell the property to a nearby hotel, it could profit by building a huge parking garage with retail at the base. This parking garage would benefit from its proximity to IH37 and the Convention Center and spaces could be made available for lease to the surrounding hotels, workers, and residents.

Used Sketchup by Trimble. Love it!!!

A lil' bit of country, a lil' bit of Rock n' Roll

San Antonio Sporting District

Commerce / Santa Rosa / Nueva / San Pedro Creek new streets: (north-south) The Avenue of Ill Repute and (east west) Blue Book Boulevard

The Scarlet Hotel and Casino: 357ft.

This one took years to make, and it’s still not quite there yet. But it stopped being fun for me, so it's time to post and move on to yet another creation.
This is a Steampunk homage to the old Sporting District, as well as the old west in general. I know it’s not the exact location of the old district, but the design of the jail sure took my imagination places. I also relocated the O'Henry House and the De la Garza Homestead to the District. AND YES ITS BROWN (mostly coppery), GET OVER IT! (But at night its sinfully red )

District Includes venues such as:
The Scarlet Hotel and Casino
The Fannie Porter Sporting House
The Stars and Garters Burlesque Revue
The Candi Bar
Beauty Saloon
White Elephant Saloon
Vaudeville Theater and Saloon
Hell's Half Acre (mixed used residential)

Home to events such as:
Aetherfest
San Antonio Burlesque Fest
Tadarida San Antonio (A Halloween Ball benefiting the Bracken Bat Cave)
Maverick Music Festival
maybe some tech conference

I was inspired by the old US Post office and Maverick Bank Building that stood originally on Alamo Plaza and Houston, and another bank building on Houston Street that I forgot the name of.

Navarro Tower

610ft, 682ft to top of spire

(West) Market / Navarro / Commerce

I dedicate this building to the many like-minded forumers out there wanting to see some residential, office, or mixed use atop the multi-level garage planned. I started with the initial design, released over a year ago. After several fun-filled late nights, I came up with this mixed-use building.

Fire, can you make one of these including the projects in the Urban Core Rundown page SKW created?

It would be interesting to get a sense of what DT will look like when those projects are completed.

Wow that's the second time a tower was accurately predicted for the same spot at 300 Main lol (first was the Frost Tower), I imagine if there's ever going to be another skyscraper pushing 30 stories it'll be right next to Dennys on Commerce across from the Henry B, since the city is continuing to put money into expanding it there will probably be more demand for hotel rooms/conference space in the next decade.
