The dream spot would be between Commerce Place and the Piggot tower, with a pedestrian throughway going from the MacNab terminal to Gore Park with shops/cafes on the main floor.

BUT KNOWING THIS CITY....

Why would anyone want to put this in an area already filled with highrises? Do you want an Ottawa style skyline where you can't see most of the buildings? Give them space so the skyline has more texture and variety from different angles.

Waterfront

So many hotels downtown and with their success on the East Mountain. Maybe break the mold and look at the Waterfront near Williams Coffee Pub.
Between HMCS Haida and Discovery Center. Nice stroll along the shore.

The lot at Bay & Market would be a good spot as well

I'd imagine they'll want to stay close to the convention centre. Perhaps the Canadian Football Hall of Fame land?

It is great to speculate and suggest locations but remember that Carmens does not own any lots downtown yet. Some may have their own ideas for their property. They will have to find someone who is willing to sell at the right price. Not everyone wants to sell. Some may want to hold on for a few more years until the prices really goes up in the core. These are the ones that are not interested in development, just how more money can I make selling the land.

Maybe they will partner with someone who owns property in the core or repurpose an existing building. Only time will tell. Carmens seems to move quickly on projects,

I just don't want people to get their hopes up and be disappointed. I personally can wait until the put something on paper. There is a lot going on in the core to get excited about!

That's exactly what I'm hoping for, but also with several floor of new convention centre space in the podium and a bridge over MacNab connecting to the current convention centre (similar to how the North and South Metro Toronto Convention Centre buildings are connected)

That spot should be used for a public plaza to connect the McNab bus station and Gore Park. At least in my opinion.

There could be a tunnel/public plaza under the podium to connect James & MacNab.

Some renderings of my idea...

I suppose that's okay, but I like space between highrises myself.

That was my thinking too, a while back pondering how our smallish convention centre could be expanded. But I think they could build a floor or two right over MacNab, not just a bridge - that could provide space for a fairly large hall, with lots of natural light.

Centenary United has been in limbo too. How nice would it be to incorporate the existing church as conference or theatre space?

While I hope the original vision stands, I wonder what Carmen's will actually come forward with in a formal proposal.

(nice renders by the way )

That rendering would also assume that the MacNab Transit Terminal building doesn't exist

All for it. Even something that was tall, but had a tiered design, so maybe a four storey podium and frontage along James with a tall skinny tower. I'd even be happy with a 10-15 storey addition there. That lot being empty really is a downer on how the core feels as a city. With it filled, the view and the feeling on the street would be insanely different.

I normally say, build away, as tall as you want. But the Pigott building is such an asset, I think anything that goes beside it needs to complement it. Or at least not make it look puny.

That said, I'm not holding my breath for anything ever to be built in that spot.

this is a bizarro thread. The Mercantis are not developers. They run a hotel and convention centre and are angling for a casino. They pitched a horrible render of a hotel in hopes of giving themselves some credibility to back up their horrible casino pitch, all to distract people about why their promised turnaround of the convention centre wouldn't happen quite on schedule.
