2. We might have very limited time in Atlanta. If I can't make it to midtown or little 5 points, or even on that driving tour shivtim posted, can you tell me a single street in the city (or closeby) that would have some huge historic southern mansions and huge trees? Maybe even plantation style?

While you should have no problem seeing huge trees in Metro Atlanta and North Georgia, you may find difficulty finding “historic southern mansions” or “plantation style”. The huge trees should amaze you especially coming from Arizona. Well, they amaze me but I love trees/topography. Atlanta has a rather interesting forested setting.
Atlanta is a young city, only incorporated in the mid 1800s so its ante-bellum history is minimal. Its founding was mostly based on transportation and not agricultural. In fact, North Georgia is hilly and row-crop type agriculture is not very conducive thus plantations in the historic sense were not common. It has been stated that Atlanta is more like the frontier towns of the Old West than the mint julep and magnolia cities of the Old South.
While you may easily find big mansions in Buckhead and other areas of the Metro, they most likely will not be in the “historic southern mansion” type that your post implies. These type structures are more common in the coastal plain region of the state which is about 100 or so miles south of Atlanta.
Nonetheless, someone has already stated, but drive Peachtree Street.
