Thanks, rgarri! These looks great. Although I wish one of them sacrificed some height for the other...

Basically the site prep appears to have started for the two towers shown here:
Here's an NIMBYish article from July...

However, the residential towers are not part of the near-term development,” added Gage. “Phase one infrastructure construction is underway and includes retail spaces that will bring much needed amenities to the district. We expect infrastructure construction to be complete later this summer, which will be followed by tenant build-out. The retail corridor should be open for business in 2019.”
I'm guessing the potholing relates to infrastructure in some way. The first highrise is supposed to be a hotel, but they'll probably wait until the next economic cycle when the two Hyatts across the street have proven the market (or struggled to fill rooms). I just hope the remainder of the site doesn't get downgraded to shitty suburban development and we end up with North/Clybourn pt 2. The first phase isn't very inspiring, it would be a nice development in Northbrook or Wheaton but the way it presents blank walls to the street is unacceptable for a major crossroads in Chicago.

In addition to Starbucks, they have Jimmy John's, Habit Burger and Eye Q Optique as tenants in the retail center.

The IMD Gateway layout isn't ideal, but it's still way better than the utter shit they've built in the past 20 years.

Let's see how it goes. I hope they are successful. Urban is in, that's for sure--even out-of-touch, aging healthcare execs are aware of this.

I felt that way for a long time, but the developer explained how the elevator cores for a 1000 footer would have made it totally cost prohibitive to build that tall. It's a bummer the site constraints are the way they are, but they had to leave views for the Sun Times/Hotel, plus have river walk and park land and I believe they had to have the giant parking garage due to mandatory minimums.

I’m so tired of these basic ass towers. We are Chicago, we are known for architecture and our skyline please don’t offend us with this crap.

The vast majority of buildings in Chicago could be subjectively classified as "basic ass towers"...

Not everything is going to be a Hancock, Manodnock, or Vista...

True but it be nice to get a couple more like that . The original design of 1000m
And BMO Harris tower were good designs but they were changed to non attractive and basic towers. We no longer hold the title for world’s tallest at least lets hold the title for amazing art-itecture.

The original BMO design was never an official design. It was a proposal. The 1000M one definitely hurts for sure though

And to be honest I much more prefer these glass boxes as a "basic ass tower" instead of that international style that has plagued much of the world in the '90s and '00s.

Nice update Solar! Really starting to get the vibe that the West Loop might become recession-proof (knocks on wood nervously)
