I think they will be a welcome addition.
Not everyone craves alfalfa sprouts, quinoa and kale.
There has to be a balance. There are many unique eateries but a larger place needs to have some main stream offerings and in addition to lack of experience, part of that is not knowing the demon\graphics.
How nice it will be to once again have a family place serving comfort food in the area.
Papa Georges did have some good comfort food in their time.

Papa George's made their money from 12am-4am serving drunk people who would eat anything at that point. Let's not pretend it was a hotspot destination for a Friday night dinner out... it was a dump. They owned the building for decades, so overhead was fairly low – rent for Pete's Place is over $5k a month.

I saw on Facebook that Boucher Boucher has been bought out and will be reopening in the fall by the owners of The Grove and Cornerstone. I am excited with that!

This place opening in the Scott block looks awesome. Grey Owl coffee and pub, Scottish style.

I wish them luck.
They will do okay but for me....
The service is polite for sure. But..Chicken...
Only legs and thighs, vomitous runny gravy, really awful fries.
Several of my Filipino friend's agree.
Only like the peach mango turnover.
For chicken, I will be supporting Popeye's and Mary Browns. Chicken Chef is also okay.
I would think KFC & Chicken Delight are not thrilled.

there's at least 3 Chicken Delight for sale now, for months and no movement, similar to the fate of Robin's, I think Chicken Delight days are numbered.

One of the challenges with Chicken Delight is they have decreased their marketing spend over the years. I am sure if you asked them though it is all MPI's fault for moving to a staggered renewal period killing their "Otto Pack" special promotion.

The Otto Pack...classic.

Chicken Delight is just one of those chains that got stale and is now fading away. FWIW their product is no worse than whatever else is out there... pretty well all breaded chicken coming out of a deep fryer tastes more or less the same. KFC, Jollibee, Chicken Delight... there might be minor differences like with Coke vs. Pepsi but the product is de facto the same thing... it's all about marketing.

This is exciting stuff, and those are the right people for it.

They're like the Scott Bagshaws of Winnipeg pub/comfort food.

The mention of the Grove reminded me that they are opening a cafe in the space next door. When I was there a couple of weeks ago it looked like they were doing finishing work, and the server that night said it's coffee, breakfast-y takeout stuff. The interior is definitely in that clean white aesthetic of today's coffee shops.

Also I saw a big sign in the windows of the ground floor unit in that union building on Broadway, saying Capital Grill & Bar is coming soon. Capital currently has a location on Roblin in Charleswood. Great to see this spot finally occupied after being vacant for a couple of years (and was a credit union before that). They'll do great, and have their own sidewalk patio space. Should add a lot to Broadway.

That's great news, they've been talking about doing that for years.

Amazing – I've always hated how such an amazing patio space was wasted on a CU.

They seem to be doing pretty well. Yeah the gravy and fries weren't that great imo but the spice and crispy on the chicken was really good. Though I found the pieces of chicken weird. I've never seen random bones cut in fried chicken before, made me curious as to why they did that.

I wish they would sell the parking lot and develop residential on it. Confusion Corner is a great building but it feels totally isolated in an island of parking and roads.
