If I read the plans correctly, the core will stop immediately below the two or three story sky lobby for the Four Seasons. The "finial" (i.e., the lighting element to which you refer) will not be an extension of the core (which rises pretty much at the center of the structure), but will be part of the steel structure on the western side. Until the steel is high enough, the roof of the sky lobby, the cooling tower, and the finial won't be completed, so there can't be a "top off" no matter how you slice it.
Excuse the non-technical use of "topping off." I now understand it to be the last beam (or its equivalent) that is placed atop a structure during its construction period. So you guys are technically correct!

Yes, that does look short, but the hotel roof line was never going to be taller than the Comcast Center. It looks like the hotel roof should come close to the original drawing.
^^ I wish the hotel roof cleared the top of the original CC, but we have to remember that the top portion of CC is all mechanical/cooling tower. The top hotel floor, although below the roofline of CC, is still much higher than the highest office floor of CC or any other building in town, so we have that going for us. With respect to overall height, the CITC cooling tower barely beats the existing CC roofline. Like it or not, the light-up finial on CITC is the thing that accounts for any official height title this will hold.

I heard that the wind from yesterday's wierd weather winds, did damage to one of the glass sections. It was described as "shattered" then fell out.
I am guessing no one was hurt. That wind is a mother! Bulgar, did you catch that? As usual, Amazing photos!
