That cruise ship shot is nice. I wish I could relive the feeling that a 1st time visitor gets every damn morning. Like, I would like to have that feeling every morning and maybe multiple times per day. Who needs coffee, when you have pure adrenaline, which is what drives 1st time visitors to walk until their feet are destroyed and eyes are salty, so dry like desert desecration cracks from not blinking. I suppose if I would request to put myself in a medical coma for 25 years, and than wake up in 2047, I might be surprised... but that seems like a complicated plan.

Right after 9-11 I got deployed to NYC for Sea Marshal escorts. When the pilot boat meets the cruise ships at the entrance they drop off the pilot. They would also drop us off in 4 man teams. One would head towards the engine room. The other three of us would take the bridge. I have a pic somewhere of us standing on the bridge of one of these armed with M16s.

Does the facade really transition to gold or is that just the way the sun reflects off the angle? I couldn't really tell from the renderings.

Has this been posted yet? An interesting PDF on the structural engineering of the structure-- http://global.ctbuh.org/resources/pr...ngineering.pdf

Also...maybe this was already discussed or confirmed in this thread somewhere...

But how are they gonna take that new tower crane down, the roof doesn't seem like it could accommodate a derrick crane...

By building the other one back up and then jump that one down and use a street crane to disassemble? The platform is only like 20 floors off the ground which doesn't seem impossible for a street crane. Unless that's what the platform next to it is for, a derrick...

...IDK seems kinda small and weak to me...

Helli-crane? Do they ever do that in NYC?

Since this platform was built I've been trying to figure out it's purpose. Maybe I'll soon find out. Your guess makes some sense.

"Gold-Black-Silver at the top.
It really really really does." - JSsocal

OMG and heaven forfend ! . . I AM seeing some of that gold-ish tint . .
Numerous times in this thread . . I've argued against your interpretation
of a colored crown here . . that such a thing would never be a reality
atop such a sophisticated design . .
that the tinting, was mere romanticized rendering . .
But, JSsocal, it looks like you might be right . .
which does NOT at all delight me . .

If indeed true,
Verre's modernist crown is going to be severely trivialized by this tinting . .
I adore color . . but it is the easiest thing in the world to misuse . .
Please God, not here ! . . not color compromising the most serious
distinctive architectural shape north of 42nd . . not color fighting
the most important architectural focal-point statement in the skies
north of 1 Vanderbilt & chrysler . .

Let Verre, hard-edge into sky, dark & sharp . .
keep the geometry clean . . Corten Steel would be better . .
If this tower were light, it should be resolutely so . .
sharp-shooting light, right up through its peaks . .
starkly silver ridges, if the whole tower were silver . .
Well, how about this dark dangerous severe crown, being so softend ? . .
How do you feel 'bout Verre being Disneyfied, . . its crown turned into
a three-toned neapolitan ice cream bar, chocolate vanilla & strawberry ?
It would be a great feat of architectural cancellation . .
a cryin' shame sham . . at 1,050 ft. above NYC ! . .

If we took it even further, we could edge all of Verre's form, in pink piping . .
If we prettied-up every serious drama . . Albee's Virginia Woolf film,
wouldn't feature Elizabeth Taylor as vicious bitch Martha . .
'cause Minnie Mouse would be much more colorful . .
Maybe we're all just "seein' things" . .
