Because that isn't cool enough I suppose.

I hope they have some kind of battery backup, because if they go out in power outages they'll be completely useless.

Yeah, they obviously don't know what they're doing, right? Must be newbies.

Renderings Revealed For Outdoor Space As Exterior Hoist Removed From 3 WTC

Quote:
An 11,000 square-foot outdoor terrace will be located on the 17th floor of 3WTC, which will be the World Trade Center’s first outdoor space. Ken Smith Workshop designed the space, which will be divided evenly, with half open for the whole building, and half for the anchor tenant GroupM, who leased roughly 700,000 square feet in the tower’s base for 20 years.

The terrace will be decorated with lush planter pots, copious seating, and an awning to cover the outdoor bar, specifically marketed as having coffee for all. The terrace will feature views of the 9/11 Memorial Park, 1WTC, and Santiago Calatrava’s iconic Oculus transit hub.

Outdoor space is one of the necessary amenities for new office construction in the city.

Always a plus. Beats being in a tower thats just depressing like a typical corporate, soul crushing, run in front a train type of tower like 270 Park.

Point being, and an often overlooked attribute of a tower is its ability to interact with the tenants via amenities or design features that allow for access to gardens or outdoor plazas or even how light enters the building spaces (just some examples). Good tower design incorporates the human element into it.

Very nice photos. I find this tower to be a very nice addition to the city, and glad it won't be long before its an open, and functioning office tower in the financial district. Every little bit brings Downtown back stronger than before.

You could have stayed sleep for that input. But we get it, you don't like it.

Lol wouldn't agree there. Its still very much boring in real life.

It's a class A office building in Manhattan, there was never going to be any issues with the quality of the product. All the smaller components of the building are first class, no doubt. It's just a watered down design. Its a piece of real estate, not a great piece of architecture.

The modern-industrial design of the base makes for great street presence and a distinct character. It looks great from ground-level.

If people had never seen the previous designs, they wouldn't be so sour on this IMO.

I would agree, though like many I wish that the original design was kept. Some are actually down on this building though as a value engineered mess and of course I wouldn't go there, but it did seem more striking. This tower, however, is still pretty darn good and the quality of glass as in the other buildings is fantastic.

The long vertical exposed beams that run all the way from the base to the crown are striking. If only they'd have been thrown into the other two sides as well.

I saw this one completed for the first time on Saturday, and I gotta say that it would've looked so much better with the four little spires in the corners.

I agree, this one is great when you see it in real life. The quality of the materials used is phenomenal!

While the memorial-facing side of this building is the nicest, I actually like the sides of the building too. They remind me of Foster's The Index in Dubai with the soaring vertical lines.
